http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/biz/3537430.html Dec. 20, 2005, 12:22PM Clemens to open sports-themed restaurant Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle A restaurant bearing Roger Clemens' name is slated to open this spring in the Memorial City Mall. Clemens and MetroNational, a Houston real estate investment, development and management firm, are partnering on the project that will be called Roger Clemens' Rocket Sports Grill. The sports-themed eatery will display memorabilia from Clemens' pitching career. The menu is still being developed but Clemens says it will probably include many of his favorite dishes. He plans to be visible at the restaurant.
Mickey Mantle has his place on Central Park South. Roger Clemens has his place in Memorial City Mall?? What, was Gulfgate's proposed rent too high? That place is a dump.
I'm sure it was Pupurra's and Drayton's inability to make a deal with the Galleria as to why Clemens is stuck at the former location of "the Rockets shop".
Are you joking? Memorial City Mall is really nice now. My wife actually likes going there more than the Galleria.
dude when was the last time you went?? Granted many many years ago it was a dump. Nothing but ghetto thugs.. But it has turned around there's a skating rink inside.
With the notable exception of the Galleria, indoor shopping malls do not interest me. They are where the masses shop. They also detract from urban planning and density. If I must go to a shopping center, I go to Uptown Park, Highland Village, Rice Village, etc, which have unique stores and elements of mixed use (residential, retail, office, hospitality) -- providing much more intelligent urban design (i.e. no vast parking lots) as well as superior product offerings. In my opinion, the location of the restaurant detracts from its image. However, if he's looking to tailor a restaurant to a less affluent clientele, then hey, go for the mall scene.
Again, when is the last time you've been to that mall. And, the masses don't go to the Galleria? That's hilarious. You initially said that place was a dump and you obviously have no idea what you're talking about, as pointed out by nearly everyone in this thread. Then you respond criticizing it's clientele. Classy.
Ditto. I hit the MC about once or twice a month because its so close to my office. The area is nice (Its Memorial for chrissake) and continues to change and grow . They recently tore down that old Oshman's Super Sports and started building a nice high rise office building. Mervyn's is closing, but maybe they can pull in another high-end retail dept. store. The also tore down the old T&C Mall and are planning on building a mixed use development.
its a sports restaurant t.j. not a prestigous steakhouse. maybe he didn't have you in mind when picking location.
Memorial is affluent clientele. Its one of the most expensive areas to live in Houston..... They pull in plenty of rich folks and almost rich folks, and almost almost rich folks.
The restaurant will not be inside the Mall. It will be in the open section where Dennis' and Ciro's is located right now. I've seen the "blue print" of the proposed changes they're making and that area (east of Dillards) will be constructed to be like the one in the corner of '610 and Post Oak', they are also adding a small open-air concert pavillon next to it. The west side of the mall (the old Oshman's) will be more like high-rise (expensive) residential/hotel type building.
If I'm going to pay ten bucks for a hamburger, there better be more to offer than a bunch of low end Roger Clemens memorabilia...
they've already started construction on the high rise on the other side of gessner from the mall. I remember when it was announced in the Chronicle. Its supposed to be upscale office and retail space.
