Anyone else have weird things happen at the workplace around the holidays??

I work in a smallish office >20 people and I have gotten lots of homemade items/baskets from at least 4 of them.. I've seen how dirty some of the people are that I work with and there is NO WAY I’m gonna eat any of it.. I feel bad that they/their wives did all this work only to have me pawn it off to a friend or trash it. The reason I don’t eat these things is I've gotten sick off of food people have brought to work before and that WONT be happening again..

Also, I like to have people "owe me one" and one of the guys that owed me a HUGE favor that I've been saving to cash in for our office upgrade tried to get out of it by giving me a nice gift of a few hundred dollar gift card. It seems he did this so he could cash out on his terms and not mine.. The guy KNOWS I wanted payback in my choice of the new offices and not a gift card the problem is the guy is very nice so I can’t be mad, but I do think he's trying to "pull a fast one" so to speak...

Anyone else feel like they have a Seinfeld episode going on in their head some times??

lol, there's one particular guy here at my workplace that no one eats from. everyone tries to get in the food first before he does. i feel bad for the guy b/c he's nice also. i don't even know the story behind it. i remember overhearing him talk about bringing his birthday cake from home one day and set it on the table for everyone. it was never touched and he questioned everyone but no one would actually tell him why.

What's worse is when somebody brings a cake to work and you don't even get a piece...

We we're doing a birthday celebration for an employee after lunch one time a while ago with a small crowd of about 12 people. This one lady decided it was a good time to break out a big bowl full of those little fried chicken wings you always see as appetizers on chinese menus but you never order nor usually want. Anyway, she poured some soy-sauce based sauce concoction over them to moisten them up and give them flavor I guess. She was ready to serve them...along with the cake we had. Suffice to say we were all looking at each other thinking "umm...we just had lunch, we're eating a birthday cake, and she's trying to get us to eat some of those chinese chicken wings". I don't think a single person had one which was kind of bad considering she made them herself. It was poor timing more than anything else. I don't know about you...but I don't like chicken wings with my birthday cake. It seems like she would have had to throw them away after she poured the sauce on them and noone ate them. I don't think anyone even ate one trying to be nice as we were already stuffed from lunch. So, we all said "man...lunch has me full. I can barely eat my cake." . Poor girl. Also, her personal hygiene had been called into question many times as she had a really foul smell about her so that didn't help. I feel like a turd telling you all this...especially since she was just trying to be nice. :D

These stories are cracking me up! I know exactly what you all mean though. Back in the day when I used to work in the apartment industry, as a leasing agent, some of the residents would feel compelled to bring us lunch or other homemade food items that we wouldn't go near with a 10 ft. pole. Especially after doing inspections on their apartments and actually seeing how dirty some of these kitchens were. Gross!

lol... my mom works with a guy who has 20 house cats. Apparently all inside cats, and not in a particularly big house. Whenever he brings food to work, she avoids it... just thinking of where it came from...

I am always leary when I get stuff from students. They are usually very nice and have the best intentions but I get a little scared just the same.

Well, apparently HR thought I had quit...so I'm just now getting my bonus check, when everyone else has had theirs for about 10-11 days now.

Thanks again to Dave (as well as the other sups), who manages to keep squeezing money out of HR for me. :p
