How come Stro doesn't do the "Stro Stroke" anymore?

While at Memphis, Stro had a routine with his arms crossed that he does after a dunk. Now with the Rockets, I don't see him doing it anymore. That probably has to do with the large number of wide-open dunks he misses/clanks but even after a successful throwdown he doesn't do it. Does JVG (aka. Wonder Coach) have anything to do with it?

I saw him do it a couple times. He did it when we played against Memphis at Memphis and a couple other times. I am glad he does it rarely cuz it looks purdy dumb.

I'm glad he's not been doing it. It was becoming pretty cliche. The custom celebrations all started with antoine walker's shimmy (maybe w/ hornaceck touching his face to say hi to his kids), then doug christie saluting his wife after every routine play, and capped off by darius miles and quentin richardson doing the "knucklehead" thing everytime they touched the ball.

when you throw down the type of dunk's stro is capable of, there's really no need to draw more attention to yourself. people notice.

I don't know if this would stop him, but I don't think JVG thinks too much of such celebrations. He certainly didn't like Sura's/Barry's little three celebration last year.

Stro only really did the birdman when he did some big monster dunk which hasn't happened lately. Every time I saw him do it when he was in Memphis it usually followed some sick dunk. He just hasn't had much of an opportunity to do it.

    1. he does still do it. i've seen it about 3 times for myself, but i'm sure he's done it a couple times more when i didn't watch.

    2. i'm pretty sure that JVG does not have anything to do with a decrease in his celebrations. he simply hasn't played much, nor has he had much to celebrate this season. but i think people don't give JVG enough credit whether it be more his coaching or his willingness to let players be themselves (with the exception of stevie).

    3. i like it when he does that. mainly b/c it means he's just thrown down a sick dunk for us, but celebrations in general are fun. if you think otherwise, you can just join the heads of the NFL (no fun league).

I've only seen him do it twice this year--both times against Memphis (once preseason). I'm thinking either he decided to leave it in the past (but bring it out for the Griz, special) or JVG has suppressed it. Either way..whatever. But he's definitely had enough chances to bring it out if he wanted to, cause he'd do it for a lot of the dunks he's had this year if it was still last year in Memphis..

Personally, I want to see the "Three" symbol come back. All I know is that it annoyed the hell out of Dallas fans last year.

That means we should do it more often. :p

Because I don't want the NBA to become the NFL. Because the time for celebrating is after a victory, and not while there is still work to be done in the game. Because humility is better than gaudy demonstrations of meaningless celebrations.

Those celebrations should be saved for victories, or very special circumstances like Mario's kiss of death.
