Just wondering about some of your families' traditions for the holidays...

It occurred to me the other day that my family, and my wife's family seem to have a short (but growing) list of movies & shows that we make a tradition of watching every year at this time.

We celebrate Christmas, so the choices are many, but I wonder how many of you out there might do the same?

In my list(s) I will try and put some memorable quotes...

Titles we have watched for years:

    White Christmas
Q: "How can a guy *that* ugly have the nerve to have sisters?"
    A: "Very brave parents."

    It's A wonderful Life
Little girl: "Look, Daddy. Teacher says every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings"

    Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Yukon: "Whoa. Whoa. Unmush, will ya?"

    A Charlie Brown Christmas
Lucy: "Attention, everyone, here's our director."
    Snoopy: "Boooooooooooooooooooooo."
    Charlie Brown: "Man's best friend."

    Frosty The Snowman
Narrator: "Hocus-Pocus explained the situtation to Santa, who as you know, speaks fluent rabbit."

    Christmas Vacation
Clark: "Well I'm gonna park the cars and get the suit cases, and well, I'll be outside for the season."

    Home Alone
Several scenes: "Keep the change, you filthy animal."

    The Santa Clause
Scott Calvin: "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night! When I get home, I'm getting a CAT scan!"

    More Recently Added Favorites:

    Elf
Buddy: "Have you seen these toilets? They're GINORMOUS!"

    The Santa Clause 2
Scott Calvin: [going on a date] "A needlepoint sweater and a mini-van. I'll be back in about eight minutes."

I Want A Dog For Christmas, Charlie Brown
Rerun: "Sisters are the crab grass in the lawn of life."

    ----

Anyway, post your favorites if you like... hint: IMDB.com is a god quote source to help your memory...

We usually watch A Christmas Story and Rudolp the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. My family doesn't have the attention-span to get through much more than that.

Yeah, I meant to say... like over a 2 or 3 day period... and not all at the same place, etc... like a combination of stops. For instance, White Christmas is always on in the background at my wife's Aunt's house on Christmas Eve as we open gifts... so it's not actually that we really pay attention to it...

I've always heard A Christmas Story is funny, but I've somehow only seen literally a few minutes of it ever... should we venture a rental?

No, I understood. It's just hard to get my family to watch movies in general. They are all busy bodies with a lil ADD mixed in there. :D

If you haven't seen A Christmas Story, definitely rent it. It will probably be on TBS or something over and over as well.

As for TBS, I saw an ad that said 24 hrs of A Christmas Story... starting up at 7pm on Christmas eve..

So unless I misunderstood it, they are going to have it go over and over for 24 hrs straight...

TBS does indeed do a 24 hour "A Christmas Story" marathon every year. i always get in at least one watch during that time, usually two or three. an absolute classic. you have to watch it IROC it. if you liked all those other movies, i can't imagine you won't like this. i didn't know anyone hadn't seen it yet.

my other favorite is Christmas Vacation. actually, i think it is my favorite over Christmas Story, though it's close. so many great moments throughout the whole movie and hilarious. this, and not It's a Wonderful Life, should be the standard bearer for Christmas movies.

those are pretty much the only two i have to catch every year. i haven't seen the Rudolph one in a while.

A Christmas Story transcends "Christmas Movies" and should be compared to more contemporary movies...

Christmas Vacation has laready been watched four or five times.
Love, Actually made the rotation for the second year and is sure to be a perennial favorite in my household.
Others that we always whip out:

    Die Hard
    Home Alone
    The Long Kiss Goodnight
    Lethal Weapon
    Gremlins
    The Grinch (Jim Carrey)

    There are others.

Love Actually is a good one.

I have the other typical favorites; A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation. All the while jamming to some Run DMC "Christmas in Hollis."

Trading Places - Greatest Hoilday Movie Of All Time with great quotes all around : "Not cool being a jive turkey so close to thanksgiving" and "Merry New Year". And of course Jamie Lee Curtis' brief nude scene.
    Scrooged - poor Lumpy
I used to love Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas as a child.

Anybody remember that local band (I think they went to Rice) "Sprawl" that did a funk version of this in their set? Those guys rocked.

And I love it still! How can you not love holiday classics like "Mess O' Mama's Bar-B-Q" and "Ain't No Hole in the Washtub"?
