i am freaking ecstatic about a team coming to Houston . . . season tickets here I come. Now if we can only build a stadium like this . . . http://www.stadiumguide.com/karaiskaki.htm . . . it would be even better still!
They just had a press conference, the main points were: The team will be playing at Robertson Stadium while working on a deal for their own stadium Oliver Luck has left the Harris County Sports Authority to become president of the team Name the team contest will begin soon You can make a $50 dollar deposit for season tickets now, more pricing information will be released soon Home Depot is the founding partner http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/hou/index.jsp
Well, my point was that it's a sport that can be played by any and all classess and nationalities, and requires little or no financial investment.
Ummm...the World Cup is NOT the only BIG event in soccer where the best of the best are on display. There is the European Championship played every four years (2 years after the World Cup) which is basically the best of the best of European Nations. There is the UEFA Champions League, which is a tournament of the best of the best of the European Clubs. There are other tournaments like the African Nations Cup which is a competition of the best of the best of the African teams. These are only some of the MAJOR tournaments. Also, the leagues in Europe are as fun to watch as any of the major US sports. Those who bash soccer b/c it is boring, and wanna take the ignorant approach, the same can go for baseball. If I were taking YOUR ignorant approach to soccer and applied it to baseball, here's what it would sound like: Most baseball games are low scoring, action occurs once or twice in the 4 hours that the game takes place, with most of what occurs are grown men spitting, grabbing their nuts and closeups of their face are shown every 10 seconds. Once in awhile there's a hit and if they're lucky it is a home run
On a more positive note, this will be great for the city and I think it will do very well here. I think the league will be pleasantly suprised at the attendance.
As one of the "soccer is boring to watch" guys, I'd have to say... yeah - baseball is boring to watch, too. Like soccer and hockey, baseball is also one of those sports that's fun to play, but boring to watch. Maybe that's why I'm a basketball fan.
hey, drox, lol about what? your mom? us playing on the street in MEXICO? being dirty? accepting we were? what? what? Ohhh, I'm soOooo confused...! Freaker. That's why I said MOST. And, Raven Lunatic, sorry I misused the term. I meant to say: "Is Lunatics a good 'soccer' name?" Really, it should be a galactic name. I am about to go get my season tickets right now, and enter the contest. p.s.: www.sanjoseearthquakes.com <- ? index of /
I'm trying to get into soccer. I thought it was an absolutely boring sport, but I watched the MLS championship and thought it was fairly entertaining despite the fact I know nothing about the rules of the game. I live near the home of FC Dallas, so I may by tickets this year. Maybe there will be a Houston/Dallas rivalry? So is Houston getting a team? Has it been confirmed or is it all still up in limbo? This may be the first time I cheer for a Dallas team over a Houston team... kill me.
I'm positive there will be a rivalry between the teams, there should be some decent sized groups making the trips between the cities for games between them.
Interesting to see the Derby between the two teams, though it won't be a Derby because we aren't in the same city.. I used to hate soccer with a passion, now I even refer to it as football. If you want to get into the sport in general, watch a match in Europe. The Champion's League knock-out stages are about to begin, and I know ESPN broadcasts them. The thing that makes haters into lovers of the sport is the atmosphere, it's like College Football -- but even better (Of course in Europe, not here). They don't just cheer, they sing, they dis the opposing team, and the opposing fans throw one back at them..
