I was watching Sportscenter after the Rocks game to see who the moron was that was saying the White Sox could have the best rotation ever after trading for Vasquez. Of course it turns out to be Mr. Fake Press Conference himself, Steve Phillips. Anyways, one interesting thing he mentioned was that Jon Garland could be on the block because he is looking for big money. He's apparently been shopped around and was even considered in the Vasquez trade. I haven't been able to find out if this is true, but some guy on the ChiSox board claimed that he rejected a 3 year $25 million deal and is using AJ Burnett's new contract as an example of what he's looking for.

    What do you guys think?

what I don't get is that from the espn article about vazquez

it's the same damn distance to arizona from puerto rico as it is from puerto rico to chicago.

I'm convinced vazquez is a moron.

:D I also heard he likes balls, baseballs. Some pitchers specialize in strikeouts, some in groundouts, broken bats, flyballs. Vasquez is a specialist in giving up the longball. Moonshots make his day.

But seriously, Garland wants $50 million? He is severly overated. The whole damn white sox pitching staff is overated. How in the hell does Blastquez make them better? I really hate the white sox, and their belief in pitching and defense <-- so overated. Just stay back and swing for the fences, thats how champions are made. Locating and controlling your pitches is overated too. Just rear back and fire everytime. I bet that's how Cy Young did it. :D

Hmmm i keep editing this post. Also their are a lot of good fa pitchers next year. Zito, Pettitte, Mulder, Radke, Garland, Jason Schmidt(looks done), Jaret Wright :), and I also heard Christ himself will step the mound. Their will be a lot of pitchers probably available during july.

I dont know about Garland...but unless there is some "under the table" deal that Roger is back May 1, we DO need a starter.

I think the most likely pitchers for us to obtain in a trade are Kris Benson or Matt Clement, if we go that route.

Of course, inside sources tell me Alan Ashby says Fernando Nieve is "the best AAA pitcher we've had in several years." ;)

Interesting, was this recent or during the winter meeting in Dallas. I'm sure teams inquire about players all the time, just to see what the price is. Though after losing Morris, I'm sure the Cards are a little more interested. I was listening to Rome and Rosenthal said the Cards are cutting payroll because of how much they have to pay out of pocket for their stadium. Damn, imagine what would have happened to the Stros had we not payed for MMP with taxes? Actaully, I guess they'd be in another city.

If he's looking for big money, he isn't going to get it here. Hometown discount or nothing, especially for pitchers.

Garland is NOT as good as he showed last year. I really hope someone not named Drayton/Tim overspends on him
