Astros come back from 6-1 to win 10-8. Rocker's line: 1/3 inning 5 hits, 4 runs, 1 BB, 1K, 1 blown save, 1 loss ------------------
It wouldn't have been an Astros game without the bottom of the 9th. [correction] top of the 9th...my bad [This message has been edited by Smokey (edited July 16, 2001).]
Does Wagner get the save in a situation like this ? I know it wasn't a save situation, but it became one. Astros bully looks good. Cubs lost also...... ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Harry Carey "Norm, if I had a mohawk scalp, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you."
Actually, they scored 5 in the bottom of the 8th to take a 10-6 lead, Wagner gave up 2 in the 9th. ------------------
This will be remembered as the most important game of the regular season. The 'stros really, really sacked it up and put forth everything to win it tonight. The team was in a bad state, and could've just rolled over, but Vinny C and crew kicked ass. And when we've won the World Series, you can point to this game as the defining moment of the season ------------------ I'm looking for a job, so hire me "And I just have to smile and say 'well, I hope so' while I'm really thinking inside how I'd like to just strangle them and take their job."
Save rule 10.20 Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions: (1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and (2) He is not the winning pitcher; and (3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions: (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or (b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces); or (c) He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game. Nope, no save for Wagner tonight. ------------------ It looks like a veteran can Be had.
Bogar got hurt, so we couldn't trade for him, lol. Actually, Lopez had 63 rbis in 63 games in NO. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Harry Carey "Norm, if I had a mohawk scalp, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you."
The Astros have taken over the wild card spot from the Braves, and are 2 games back of the Cubs (as well as 2 games out from having the best record in the National league). It seems to me that it has become a 5 team race for 4 playoff spots: Phillies, D-Backs, Cubs, Braves, and Astros. The Dodgers are close, but they just lost Kevin Brown for another 4 weeks, so I don't see them hanging close. If the young pitchers can keep up this pace they have set, and the hitters can continue to overcome Elarton's mistakes, then the post season is looking like a real possibility. ------------------ It looks like a veteran can Be had.
Alright! ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Guns kill squirrels than REDRUM to fools across the nation?

Since you are spending money on Astro's games, does this mean you still have a job? ------------------ It looks like a veteran can Be had.
rockHead, did you get any pictures of the Stros ? Rocker yelled at a fan, lol. What a character. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? I wonder what the fan said to Rocker. Could an annoying yet harmless Roooccker have done the trick? Bring on the Cubbies. ------------------ New Order, Electro Superstars
I LOVE seeing a guy like Rocker get beat. what a jackass!!! Did ya'll hear Wagner's comments on the radio this morning about Rocker?? He said, "What does the guy expect...if you say those things, you're gonna get treated that way. You should just keep you mouth shut and play the game." Good advice, Billy! Go 'stros!!! ------------------

Awww...poor Rocker! Tuesday, July 17 ROCKER LOSES CLOSER'S ROLE TO WICKMAN ESPN.com news services CLEVELAND -- Bob Wickman has replaced struggling John Rocker as closer for the Cleveland Indians, Indians manager Charlie Manuel said. Rocker has struggled since coming to Cleveland from Atlanta on June 22, blowing two of four save chances and posting an 8.31 ERA. The Indians have lost three straight games. "I'll go with Bob Wickman," Manuel told the Cleveland Plain Dealer on Monday. "I want to give Rocker a breather." Rocker fell to 2-4 with Cleveland after Monday's 10-8 loss to Houston in which he gave up four runs and five hits in one-third of an inning. "I don't know anything about a tired arm, I just think he's going through a period when he's not pitching well," Manuel said after the game. In his first four appearances with the Indians, Rocker was 1-0 with two saves. He has a record of 1-4 with two blown saves in his last five appearances. "I'll talk to Rocker today," Manuel told the Plain Dealer on Monday. "I think he's got a chance to be a big closer for us. We just have to take it easy." After batting practice, Rocker told a reporter: "Charlie hasn't said anything about that to me. Way to go." Wickman was 15-for-16 in save situations before the Rocker trade. He's 15-for-17 overall. "I'll take the ball whenever they give it to me," said Wickman. "If it's in the ninth inning, it's the ninth inning. If it's the seventh or eighth inning, it's the seventh or eighth inning. We've got five games to make up on the Twins. That's what I'm worried about." ------------------ New Order, Electro Superstars [This message has been edited by Smokey (edited July 17, 2001).]
