with the 24th pick in the nba draft the houston rockets select.... Luther Head from Illinois and thank you god! Thank you Luther for having ice water in your veins and hitting the three to take it to over time yesterday thanks for being a rookie and leading the rockets in three point field goal percentage and three pointers made thanks for being number 9 in the NBA in three point feild goal percentage... and most of all Thanks luther for being a Houston Rocket!!!
starting from Gerald Green who everyone wanted because we thought we had a shot at him.... is there anyone on this list you would have on your squad right now besides Luther? 18 Boston Gerald Green - SG 19 Memphis Hakim Warrick - PF 20 Denver Julius Hodge - SG 21 Phoenix Nate Robinson - PG 22 Denver Jarrett Jack - PG 23 Sacramento Francisco Garcia - SG 24 Houston Luther Head - PG 25 Seattle Johan Petro - C 26 Detroit Jason Maxiell - PF 27 Portland Linas Kleiza - SF 28 San Antonio Ian Mahinmi - PF 29 Miami Wayne Simien - PF 30 New York David Lee - PF I love our pick
Luther has been impressing me since day 1. I'm pulling for him more and more as the season goes on, and he's right there behind Tmac and Yao as my favorite players on the team. I also like the way he carries himself with a reserved, non-flashy manner..something that's very rare in today's nba. I also keep hearing about his outstanding work ethic and drive to improve, no matter what. Seems to have great character as well as a great game!
IMO, he is now the third untradable player. He is a keeper. He also has major hops, and I am still waiting for him to start driving and dunking. He can do it.
Will he though? Was he that type of player at Illinois? Sorry, I honestly did not follow him in college outside of a bit of the Madness. Aren't his hops as good as the Franchise? If he truly started taking it to people (in time) dunking on people, could he one day be an All-Star? Great pick. I love the kid! A breath of fresh air and a fantastic fortune for the Rockets.
He is more than capable. last night, late in the game or maybe overtime, I saw him sky high for a rebound. His hands were well above the rim. Sooner or later he will dunk, and I will go wild, along with my fellow Rockets bethrens. And then we will all tune to the late night ESPN Sportscenter to watch him on the Top ten plays of the night segment. He will be listed as number 2, only because the pig got loose and had to be #1. His game winning 3 pointer in 4th overtime, in game 7 of NBA finals, will not even make the list. And we will know that everything is normal.
It also bears noting that according to the graphic on FSN last night, Lutha is number 1 in alltime rookie three point percentage.(at least he was before the tough shooting night he had last night) re: his vertical draft reports had his vertical at close to 39" iirc. So yes, he can sky if he wants to.
Head is a solid rookie, and he'll certainly develop into a great player if he keeps working as hard as they say he is. I'm so glad that Alston got hurt, because (1) It's given Luther a lot more playing time (which I said at the very beginning would be uncharacteristic of the Rockets--he'd need someone to get hurt; but if he got a chance, he'd prove to be a steal at 24 in the draft); and (2) I can't go without mentioning that Alston is CRAP. Why did we trade MJ for him??? Ok, back to Head, does anyone know if he has a legitimate shot at ROY if he continues to play this well? How is Chris Paul and the other good rookies doing? I don't have time to keep up with anyone but the Rockets!
Head can freakin jump out the building. You see that one rebound he got, and it looked like he didnt even try to jump. Hopefully we'll get to see him dunk during pregame warm ups or something. BOOM! HEADSHOT!
2005-06 SCORING LEADERS : Points Per Game Rookies 1 Chris Paul , NOK 16.3 2 Deron Williams , UTA 12.1 3 Salim Stoudamire , ATL 10.3 4 Sarunas Jasikevicius , IND 9.5 5 Luther Head , HOU 9.3
Yeah, unless he really starts to put up some crazy numbers, he'll probably have a hard time beating out Chris Paul and Williams. The good news is that there's still a lot of season left to be played!
