I need some advice from you Ipod owners out there. My wife wants an Ipod, so I was going to head out and get her one. She's already told me she doesn't care about the video feature, and says that she would rarely use that if ever. She just wants something that will hold a few hundred songs and she can take to the gym, and the Ipod Nano seems like the best fit for that. I've read about the issues with the Nano scratching easily, so I was wondering if there are any owners out there that can give me their experience with it? I saw that Apple is now including a case to protect the screen. I'm trying to figure out if I should get her the Nano, or shell out the extra $100 for the Video Ipod which she will probably rarely ever use the extra features on.
I got my girlfriend one when they about 2-3 months ago and she loves it. She got the white one and it does scratch a bit if you aren't careful where you keep it. I am not positive, but I think the video Ipod has the same surface as the nano so it would acracth the same. Since the Nano uses flash memory it plays a bit quicker and obviously is smaller and looks cool-which is the most important thing to girls. I would reccommend also just getting the 2GB not the 4GB. Trust me, your girl will not know the difference and you can spend the 60 bucks you save on the Nano accesories. After seeing her have one, now I want an Ipod, of course I want the big boy with all the memory and video!
just get a nice "skin" that covers it so it doesn't scratch easy good advice about the 2GB vs the 4... you really don't need THAT many songs
His wife would know the difference... she's a computer programmer with a degree in mathematics and he's in IT, they're like nerds... but cooler. I'd get her the Nano Harrison, since she runs a boat load the physical size would be better fit for her.
Get the nano, chicks dig it, and then she can show it to all her friends to gloat about how awesome her man is and feel bigger than them. I thinkt he video ipod is for guys only, what's a woman going to do with all the harddrive space? If you need 60 gigs, you either steal a lot of movies or are a p*rn addict and need a portable video machine. Never shake the hand of a man with a 60 gig ipod video.
You could go with the Ipod shuffle, which doesnt have a screen, so that way you dont have to worry about scratching. I think that only holds 100 songs though, so if she needs more room than you should probably go with the nano
They reviewed mp3+ players on the Wall Street Journal radio program last Saturday. The gist of what I remember was that there were 3 levels of Apples, nano, shuffle and something. The guy recommended the lower end and the upper end but said for the mid-level choice (shuffle?) there were competing brands that were cheaper and just as good. He specifically mentioned the Samsung. And for exercising be sure to go with the flash memory styles, if you get one of the upscales with the hard drive they can skip or be damaged easily.
The Nano is flash memory, I believe. I don't think it has a hard drive. Also, they have thousands of little cases, clips and accessories for those things at every store on the planet. Just get something that will protect it from getting scratched if your worried about that.
Yeah, the shuffle is not an option. Those things look lame. I think I'll go with the Nano. Now the decision is black or white? The black looks cooler, but I'm sure scratches show up more. Hmmm... I need to head over to the Apple store today and I'll just go ahead and give it to her for our anniversary (today.) Otherwise I'm sure she'll read this thread and wonder why the hell I didn't get her anything.
Get the white. Safe option, most girls tend to think it looks better anyway. Plus it's your classic Apple style, which most people like.

I have the black 30GB model. It's relatively unscratched and I have kept it in the provided case. (it's a moccasin)
i got the same one a month ago (black is alot cooler looking imo). the screen does get scratched up pretty easily. i havent put any video stuff on there yet, but i have hundreds of digital photos uploaded on mine, which is pretty sweet. if you have a digital camera and would like to transport photos around than go ahead and get the video.
Yea because its not like ipods are used for listening to music.....gotta make sure their appearance looks good.....
