Shakira is Colombian and has made the "crossover" to English music, winning a grammy this past month. She's got GREAT music... the one before she sold out and started singing in English, IMO [Jeff]. I saw MOST of that SNL thing. I can't believe Chevy Chase actually said that in the show in the past.

wow the only one who knows what he is talking about in this thread is swoly... her spanish language music is tons better than her english crap. that being said the english/spanish double cd wasn't good. i think she may have topped out after donde estan los ladrones.
Shakira has been around for quite a while, she had 3 spanish CD before she came over to the US. I've always liked her music but her spanish stuff is far and away better than the english stuff. Gloria Estfan is her manager for the English stuff. Her and her husband are the ones that gave her the big make over into the girating Latin songstress. Her image was lot different before she crossed over, more like an Alanis Morrisstte type. Her voice is pretty black and white, you either love it or hate.
She has a very good voice, but her CD is good because the songs are good. They are ridiculously catchy and very well produced (the guitarist from Evanescence produced it). I don't want to like it, but I can't deny it is good.

When she was younger, and not a famous singer, she won a contest named: "La mejor cola de Colombia" (The best ass in Colombia) She was (or is) the girlfriend of the son of the president of Argentina. Her voice is different, is better than the plastic pop: Britney, ashlee, etc.
