"When Jarrod Wagner reached to remove a clump of hay that plugged his hay baler Tuesday night, his arm got caught between two of the machine's pressure rollers, which are about a quarter-inch apart.

Feeling faint, and with his arm burning, he struggled for 15 minutes to free himself.

"All I was thinking about was that my arm really hurt. And [the baler] was kind of sucking my whole body in, so I figured, well, it was either my whole body or my arm," Wagner, of New Market, Minn., said Wednesday by phone from his room at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. "I actually cut my own arm off so it wouldn't suck me in."

Using metal from the headphones he wore for noise protection, the 34-year-old farmer sawed off his left forearm below the elbow.

"I was scared, but after I cut my own arm off, I had all sorts of adrenaline," he said."

This is almost worse than that story of that guy who dislocated his leg and got his testicles caught in his joints when they put it back.

    Ok, maybe not. [IMG]

A similar thing happened at my mother's bakery. A man was all working alone at night and got his thumb wedged in a metal door. The keys were out of reach and no one would be there for five hours, so he cut his own thumb off with a dull knife that happened to be lying nearby.

Not quite as drastic as the whole arm, but still pretty tough.

I'm thinking I could wait the 5 hours. Oh I dunno... maybe take a nap or something. But hey, that's just me... [IMG]

How do you wedge your thumb in a metal door anyway? [IMG]

It was some kind of maintenance access door for a large piece of machinery I think.

Within five hours, your thumb would die from lack of circulation anyway. Not to mention the excruciating pain and psychologically damaging effect of just standing there like a moron while you bled.
