As we talk about athletes etc. more often than not it comes down to FOR THE MONEY HE IS PAID . . . MY BOSS COULD . . . . What is the limit on that for you Let's take. . A-Rod money 25 Mill a Year Does getting Higher Pay means you lose more autonomy/liberty/freedom? at least as a higher paid Employee [we know ownership is exempt from such things] In the NBA . .they asking for DNA these days Is there a limit in your mind . . .if so what is it? Rocket River
For that kind of income, I could afford the attorney that would make sure my contract gave up no privacy that wasn't already understood. Such as the notariety of being a well paid athlete... Any millionaire has a groupie problem, even if it's long lost family showing up out of the blue. Now, if I know in the beginning that DNA samples, etc. are part of the deal? I'd say 100M/yr. would suffice. Tough question though. I guess everyone has a price on their privacy. I remember not 10 years ago people would argue with a cashier as to why they needed a phone number on a check, or why they needed to show ID to use a check. BUt when they reply, "Because we can't give you your money back unless we know it's you" people hop to it. Money can change things, and people. But I would most definitely not give my employer carte blanch on what they could do. I'd have that in detailed writing.
Every job has it's hiring criteria i.e. dress code, durg testing, standards of conduct. As long as they are known upfront are legal and ethical they should be followed. If not they employee reserves the right to find work elsewhere. Random DNA testing without cause has not yet been proven legal or ethical, YET.
Misleading title.... Instead of worrying about what A-rod gets paid, ask how much that slacker co-worker is getting compared to you. If you're the silent type who thinks actions are better than words, you might be surprised.
Athletes get away with as much as valuable employees get away with. When I was at IBM, the talented engineers got away with murder as long as they got their crap done.
I'd like to see a constitutional amendment passed (if it were needed, if not... cool!) that would place a $10 million dollar cap on how much an athlete can make in salary in a season. In any sport. If they deserve more, the odds are 100 to 1 that they are making that much off of sneakers and other endorsements. Chance of that happening? Zero!! If it did, ticket prices would go down, and I see more games in person. Keep D&D Civil.
Hell yes! Why not? It's obscene to read about the huge salaries, stock options and bonuses that many get, as they are laying off employees, cutting their benefits, and shafting retirees. This extremist Republican government we've had has been sickening. The corporate sector and the rich have gotten more than they ever could have imagined. They just passed even more tax cuts! When is it going to end? We're being bankrupted by these idiots. Keep D&D Civil.
Why would you want salary caps on anyone? Let the free market decide who gets paid what. If society deems an NBA player more valuable than a fisherman, then let the NbA player get paid more. Same with CEO's. They bring millions of dollars to shareholders pockets each year. The bad CEO's are fired, and the good ones are given the tens of millions of dollars in raises they rightfully deserve.
