Why don't you return to Europe, texxx? Isn't German your root? This is Native American's land, isn't it?
Sorry but this just sounds like a bunch of whinning on your part jisangNY1, I doubt you'll move, you're just trying to blow off some steam by complaining to a bunch of people on a message board. Your reasons seem really lame, if not totally ignorant about life in the other countries you mentioned...it's like you're complaining that the US is the ONLY country with problems like crime and jerks. Get real. Actually, I hope you move (although I'm almost sure you won't) just so you can see how good you had it here...the grass is always greener, blah, blah, blah. There is a reason why people are trying so hard to get into the US from other countries and if you can't understand why then you probably should leave because you're obviously taking them for granted.

Aw, dude... you should of been around 40 or 50 years ago. Then you would have seen this racism you're so concerned about. Things are so much better now, it's not funny. You have to look at things from a historical perspective. This is a country that was literally torn asunder in large part because of slavery. It existed here for decades after most of the "civilized" nations of the world had outlawed it. I remember seeing "whites only" signs on restrooms and water fountains, with the swimming pool at the local park where I grew up having one as well. They were "forced" to ride at the back of the bus, and I remember that well. I was going to high school when the first 2 Black students were allowed to attend, although a very large percentage was made up of Latino students, who experienced a more subtle form of racism, comparatively speaking. We have come a tremendous distance in America towards racial equality. My wife would say, "How about equality for the female sex??" Gender discrimination is still being fought. Hey, there is far worse gender discrimination in huge parts of the world, compared to the States. Does our current government suck? Unquestionably, at least from my perspective, but the key word is, "currently." It will change. The pendulum will swing the other way, as it has started to do already, in my opinion, and we will have a more open, tolerant, progressive and liberal government, compared to the extremists in power now. To tell you the truth, I don't know why I bother to respond to your posts. You clearly are using "talking points," about what is supposedly wrong here, and have exaggerated everything to the maximum you could think of. You're just making crap up to tick off people here in D&D. Your comparison of the States to the Netherlands and Singapore, as if you're trying to figure out which one to move to, is beyond absurd. They are diametrically opposed to each other on the political scale. Dude, you're posting a bunch of stuff that you hope will get everyone riled up. You're some sort of experimental Trader_J/Texxx clone gone wrong. If you're trying to get people upset, you've failed. I think you're hilarious! There is plenty wrong with this country, and I've traveled around the world, so I know we aren't the "greatest place on Earth," but we're within shouting distance. And I don't believe you've ever been to New York City, except to change planes at one of the airports. I won't even touch this "Hispanic discrimination against whites" nonsense. What a riot! Keep D&D Civil.
I have to agree about the pendulum swing back and forth in terms of the US. I also see peoples outlook on America as being generational. As an example I remember when I was in the army station in Germany in the 80's me and my friends would constantly get in arguement and the occassional fight with college students, but when we would go to a guesthouse (pub) in a smaller village the local older guys would buy us beers all night and sing and joke with us and even thank us yanks for helping clean up their mess. Of course theywere talking about our fathers but it was great to be appreciated. Just my two cents i'll go back to my hole now.
[Deeeeeeeeee-rail]That's one of my favorite Ben Folds song. It's extremely catchy. But I never really understood it. Thanks MadMax for putting it in this context. It makes a lot more sense now.[/derail] [rerail]Sounds like classic grass next door syndrome. The U.S. isn't perfect but then again, neither is any other country. Nothing wrong with leaving and finding another place to live, but I just wonder if you'll end up disappointed with wherever else you might go.[/rerail]
One thing to consider is the language barrier. That being said, Korea is probably a good option. Seoul is similar to NYC in terms of climate and attitude. Growing economy and good infrastructure. It will not be as cheap as you may anticipate, however. Australia and Canada are both worth considering. Drawback with the latter is obviously the frigid climate. Australia I have not visited yet, but I know that their immigration has tightened up in the past few years. You will need to either get a job in advance or be prepared to present a business plan with minimum $1.5M of personal investment. In Europe....Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Holland are among tops for quality of life (the Scandanavian countries are too cold to be tops!). They also kill on taxes. And there will be many hoops to jump through as far as immigration goes. Germany, though is one of the few places that you can actually move to as a US citizen without obtaining a permanent residence permit beforehand. As far as your mention of racial harmony, IMO Sweden and Denmark are the most welcoming of foreign cultures. Granted, neither really has a large minority population. But still, everyone seems to get along there and actually mix extensively as friends, couples, business partners, etc.
And to think, it was just a few months ago that you wrote this: "...Americans are a kind, generous, racially tolerant nation (for the most part)...."
China might not be a bad idea. Exploding economy and ever increasing freedoms, although not enough in some ways. Yes, its still a communist country but life there is getting better. People want to trash on the country all the time and though some of it is definately deserved, I believe the country will develop into a democracy one day. There are a lot of foreigners in China who believe the country has incredible potential. I visited there last summer and found an energy and excitement to the place and get this: people in China both foreign and native are incredibly optimistic about there future, while Americans are not. American's seem to have an irrational fear of the country. Some of the hate is due to the right wing conservatives that want to make an enemy of any country that threatens American hegemony, or the scapegoating and demonizing of a nation to put fear into the American people. I'm not a liberal BTW, and I do believe China is a threat in some ways but not to the point that some in Washington believe it is. And yes, people are moving back to China from America to start new businesses and to be with their culture again. Why do all Americans believe that "everybody in the world wants to come to America." It's not true. I swear I hate it when American's say if a country is so great, how come people from America don't move to that country. People are moving to other countries, it's just not that well known to people in America. I know an Indian friend is moving back to India because of the booming economy there and because he want's his children to grow up being Indian and not American. I have a friend who is in the Peace Corps and lived throughout the Middle East. He is now living in Dubai and loves it there. I know some military people who decided to retire in Germany or Italy because they loved the life there. Why do American's hate the world and seem to resent foreign countries or cultures and believe in the almighty supremacy of America and its way of life. It's this hostility to foreign cultures and countries that Americans are so clueless to the rest of the world.
Yes, for the most part American's are kind and generous. Don't get me wrong I don't hate America, I respect the country and the people (some not all). But its the other Bulls**t I get sick of in this country. And don't tell me I'm the only one you have come across that says that America is going down the tubes. I've heard respected business owners, veterans and even elderly folks say the same thing. America used to be a great country but not anymore. That's all I'm saying. I love America deep down so it pains me to say many of the things I'm writing about. Read books from Lou Dobbs, Pat Buchanan, Michael Medved, Gore Vidal, Micahel Moore, Jimmy Carter and Bill Moyers. Both conservatives and liberals who warn about America's impending doom if changes are not made to the country. Read Confessions of an Economic Hit Man to see our misguided economic policies. Read about the rise of China and India in Thomas Freedman book The World is Flat. Read about Eurpoe turning their back on America (once close friends) in Why the World Hates America. I know some American's ask why do Muslims hate America? Read Gore Vidal and you'll find out why.
That's actually a great idea. Their per capita GDP is now up to a whopping $1,000! Your children will love you for this incredible foresight on your part. Just brilliant. see if wnes needs a ride over there, too!
I don't know about that. There are a lot of a**holes in NYC. Take Basso for example. Just kidding... Before I incur the wrath of Basso Keep D & D Civil
Some of the books you read fit the Conservative frame of why those PigLibs hate America. I'd move to a different region before you make snap judgements. Get out more, and don't let any media mess your frame of mind. It'll turn you into one real cynical dude.... I think America is declining at the moment, and our future well being is hazy... but leave? Were you born here? It's easier to move out if you moved in once before..... As for suggestions for a Korean immigrant, try Japan.
bigtexxx, I'd like to offer MEXICO for Mr. jisang. That's a PERFECT place. So perfect, I have missed it NONE.
Look no one's doubting that America has its problems. But Singapore, South Korea, etc.. are the solution? Those countries are all worse based on your criteria you established. 1. They're ALL more corrupt. My uncle bribed the border guard in Singapore in order to get in some electronic items that are subject to customs. When my family went to South Korea, a man in front of us bribed the immigration officer because his visa was messed up for some reason. Bribery is EVERYWHERE in Asia and in terms of the political level all of them have corruption. In South Korea a couple of years ago, politicians started throwing microphones at each other and in order to stop the impeachment of their president, the members of the president's political party surrounded the chairman's chair to prevent the chairman from starting impeachment hearings. Singapore doesnt even have a democratic system of government and is full of corruption at the highest levels. 2. Racial tensions are worse in all of them. Because all of those countries are so homogenous, they generally treat foreigners pretty badly. In Western Europe, many of those countries don't even count minority guest workers in population statistics because they're so obessed with cultural harmony. Its no surprise that foreigners that aren't asian looking aren't exactly welcomed with open arms. There's a subtle discrimination in many of these countries. Because these countries are so homogenous, most people aren't exposed to other cultures or the level of diversity you find in the US. Consequently race relations are worse there but because there are so few members of other racial or cultural groups, you never hear about them 3. In terms of America's "collapse," you're being slightly over cynical. Despite America's awful foreign policy mistakes, that doesn't mean that the whole place will turn over. Besides even if it did, the rest of the world would get messed up as well so this is a moot issue. 4. Just because countries aren't invading Iraq, doesn't mean that they're the best place in the world. Even if we have disastrous foreign policy, many of these Asian nations still have their own problems and the cultural transition is extremely hard, especially places like China. Dont make a rash decision because you are extremely worried. 5. At worst, just move to Canada. Its just a more liberal version of the US.
