I'd rather have Burke at shortstop for the Stros and Everett playing where ever they want for the Red Sox.

Getting Manny would be amazing. I'd hate to see Lidge go but it happens.

I have a hard time seeing Pup dealing Everett. He loves him and is expecting to have a bounce-back year from him.

Why not contact the D-Rays and Hunsicker about a deal for Aubrey Huff? The guy can mash and play in LF or spell Ensberg at 3B.

Certainly wouldn't let either be a deal-breaker for Manny, but if you assume that the Astros pitching will be worse than last year (not too much of an assumption), and that Manny would provide a huge offensive boost (not too much of an assumption either), then I don't want to significantly weaken defense up the middle for the sake of a modest (huge assumption that Burke is significantly better than AE at the plate) gain in offense at the bottom of the order. But maybe that's just me.

If the Sox want Everett thrown in, so be it. How is he any better than Tim Bogar?

Tim was very sure-handed defensively. Great arm. And he wasn't near the defender AE is.

Because folks like to b**** about AE's light bat, they regularly undervalue his defense. He's incredible.

The fact that the Braves were trying to deal for Everett tells me that he is a pretty decent all-around SS.

AE has much, much better range. Bogar was very good, AE is great. Plus Bogar was struggling to hit .200 when he was replaced (ironically by a more offensive-oriented SS in Lugo, and we can all look back on his glovework in the '01 playoffs to see how well that worked out).

p.s. look for Bogar to manage a MLB team in the next few years. Everybody that's been around his Astros A-ball teams has said incredible things about him.

I was talking about what Ramirez would bring to the table. As for Everett's or Burke's ceiling...not so much.

Bogar didnt have nearly as much pop in his bat either.

AE is good for 7-10 hrs a year...Bogar was lucky to hit it out of the infield 10 times a year.

Tim Bogar doesn't turn that DP to win game 4 of the NLCS. Also, do you remember how much b****ing there was throughout the 2004 playoffs about how many balls seemed to dribble up the middle of the diamond for hits against us? Care to recall how many of those occured in the 2005 playoffs with Everett there?

That being said, having Everett is only valubale when you have a lineup that is above average without having to consider him... if moving him can improve our team, I'm for it.

I'm also starting to get a little antsy about all the stuff going on right now, and our lack of ability to stick our nose in some moves... I know we're limited by a.) our own FA's (ausmus), b.) which positions are available this off-season (Bagwell), and c.) our "budget"... but i'm gonna try to remain patient.

Its both fortunate and unfortunate that we have to deal with Ausmus and Bagwell... they're both Astro-legends, and they deserve to be back here, but they also play two offensive positions that we have to upgrade eventually, and there just happens to be a TON of offensive catchers and first-baseman available this off-season.

What is everyone's expectation? I'm just curious....Are we expecting a big splash like one of Zito/Manny/Abreu? Or do you think we'll pursue Washburn and someone like Reggie Sanders?

Speaking of Everett, let's not forget that he hit for a reasonable average in June (.263), July (.267) and August (.274) although his OBP sucked most of the year. In September he had to start dealing with a seriously ill child. No telling how that affected his performance but it certainly didn't help.
