Hey guys, I will be moving to Thailand for a number of months in May and I would like to have a camcorder to take with me and record my experiences. It'll be my first time out of the country so this is an extremely unique opportunity for me to see some cool stuff. I basically have no idea what to look for, but I'd like to keep it at or under $300 since it's going to be a Christmas present and my parents never spend more than that much per kid these days. I know I could do some research on my own, and I will, but I'd also like to get some opinions and suggestions that might help me streamline my search. Thanks in advance for any help.
I'm thinking of getting one too, specifically for our road trip we are taking this spring to Steamboat Springs, Colorado for snowboarding.
uh, are you going, uh on one of those tours? Get a Sony Handycam. They are small, have night vision, and can be hidden in discrete places.
Hmm...according to my little bit of research, the Sony Handycam's anywhere near my price range aren't MiniDV and they are rather bulky, actually. What I did find was this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6969113&type=product&id=1099387233294 Not sure if there are any red flags there, but it's small, light, MiniDV, has night recording, and has the same size screen (with higher resolution) than other cameras in the price range. Anyone happen to know if there's any reason I shouldn't go for this one?
make sure to go and try and pick a fight with one of their thai fighters i heard their sissies you'll be OK
actually you should go check out some of their thai fights, its like really brutal boxing (with knees, elbows and kicks), they dont allow it here in the US
kick boxing is different, you can hit only to the upper body with punches and kicks, youre not allowed to use knees or elbows to the whole body, or fight in the clinch, where a lot of damage is done and you can kick using the shin which is much more powerful muay thai fighting is not allowed in the states kick boxing is a watered down version of muay thai, its really just karate kicks and boxing punches
Nope, but my girlfriend will be when I get there. All the more reason to make sure I've got a camcorder. In case you're wondering, she's over there teaching English right now. She's the only reason I'm going over there to start with. It's been 2 months since she left and it'll be another 3 months before she comes home to visit. Then she'll go back and it'll be another month until I can join her over there. In other words, the whole situation sucks!
I have a Canon ZR100. It doesn't have the best resolution and the night vision is iffy, but it's cheap and dependable, and in well lit areas, it works great. Considering your price range, you can't afford to be choosy.
Actually I'm looking at this site and it has good info. It says the best camcorder under 300 is the JVC GR-D270. The one you have is the JVC GR-D250, i think. I think you can find a Canon ZR200 for a couple of bucks more that's also worth it. The Canon camcorders have better resolution but the JVC has better zoom. That's what I got from my brief reading. Hopefully that website helps.
I'll sell you my Hi8 Sony! It has nightvision, and the S-Video & firewire outputs. No? $150? I'll thrown in a remote and a tripod?!? Well fine then. Be that way. Go for the "MiniDV."
