he a fa after this season and wants to go to chi? maybe they can rebuild and we can send them a player or two?
Predictable responses of over the cap, we got nothing they want, etc etc are soon to follow.....10,9,8,7.......
Yeah, we could definitely land Peja, here's our staring line up: PG: Head SG: T-Mac SF: Peja PF: Bowen C: Yao Bench: Van Gundy
Yao operates inside with Peja raining threes from the perimeter. And then Tmac drive in and out of the paint like a drunk driver.
Even if we could, why would we want to? 1) He's makes the max...meaning we'd have 3 max players. 2) He's almost exclusively a SF...not fast enough to guard 2's...not strong enough to guard 4's. IOW, McGrady would always have the tougher defensive assignment between the SF & SG. 3) He has a minor history of injury and no show during the playoffs. IMHO, there are a lot better values out there and a better fit would be a tall (6'6"+) player who could play both SF and SG. A Bruce Bowen or Bobby Simmons type before everyone picks them up on the radar.
They bring different strengths to the court, but guys like Gerald Wallace and Mo Peterson would be nice sidekicks to Tmac and the swingman position. And their current salaries are pretty fair.
He's got a player option for $8.2 million next year. If he declines it to become a FA, he's got 3 basic choices: 1. Resign for more money 2. Sign with a team that has cap room 3. Convince Sacramento to do a S&T Teams significantly under the cap this summer: Atlanta Charlotte (Chicago)* (Clippers) Oklahoma City (Utah) * (sub-max offer room) Me, I don't see him walking to any of these destinations. Chicago's the only one with much of a shot. Can't see him reupping for the max in Sac either. Not just because he looks like he wants nothing more than to get out, but because I don't see the Maloofs making him their top paid player (at least $12.5 to start with, to edge him over Bibby). Would you want to commit that kind of money to a guy that's giving you less than 18, 4, and 3? Who's never cashed in come springtime? Is this a roster that merits a lux tax payroll? My vote would be to seize the team's lackluster start as an excuse and not even wait for this summer. Peja's more deal-able now with a $7.5 mill salary, and you can tack on one of the overpaid forwards with him (say, Brian Skinner) for a guy like Lamar Odom or Paul Pierce. Evan
I have always liked Peja, and I think he's definitely too expensive, but even if there was a shade of a chance I'd be wary because of his health. He's been lackluster so far this season, and he seems to have a lot of nagging injuries.
Kings wont do it because it will make us better and them worse regarless of contract or salary. Unless we offer them Tmac or Yao.
i can see it now: he would be parked by the 3pt line. no movement on offense. not alot of touches for him. no perimeter defense. he wouldn't sign here, and he wouldn't want ot trade for him.
If we want a consistent outside shooter, we can just develop Head into that type of player. Peja would NEVER be a Rocket as long as JVG is here, because he won't even pretend to play defense, it's only spot-up shooting and playoff choking. Oh yah, forgot one more complication: the guy is about to get a max contract. 'nuff said.
