What kind of checklist is this? It applies to almost every country in the Arab world. Most of them have dictators and most of them probably have some al qaeda cells in their respective countries. They definitely have the control and fear you describe. And finally most of them have crappy health care systems that privilege the rich and powerful.

this is obviously just your assumption..

any links that Saddam DID harbor or collaborate with Al Queda pre 911 or even Iraq war? Try reading the 911 commission report..

    At least andymoon uses links.

    thanks in advance

It has already been done. Please use a search function and find the real information on these very boards.

When replacing a dictator and trying to instill a moral govt... you don't accomplish that by tossing aside your own morality.

When trying to give people freedom, you don't do that by throwing away your own freedom or undermining a free press.

Torture is always wrong, and almost never effective. It doesn't save lives it costs lives.

Freedom is something to be cherished and protect, not undermined or given away.

Just to get the thread somewhat back on track I would say that sometimes terrorists should be treated according to the Geneva Convention and sometimes not. It really depends on where and under what conditions they are captured. A so-called terrorists caught by US troops in Iraq technically should be subject to 4th Geneva Convention protections since the US is the occupying force. Donald Rumsfeld has said flat out that the Geneva Conventions apply to Iraq so this would be inline with at least stated policy. If a so-called terrorist is caught in the US or in another country not under a state of war or occupation then the Geneva Conventions don't apply and it is more properly a law enforcement than war matter.
