OK, maybe a capologist can answer this, but how would they be able to sign him even if they wanted to? He said he isn't signing for the vet's minimum so that only leaves him signing with a team with cap space, like Atlanta, for more money and then traded to the Rockets. But, I thought there was a 30 (or is it 60?) day grace period that a player cannot be traded after signing.
They'll give Spree a multi-year deal with the option to retire and become an assistant coach. The Rockets are really just an ex-Knick old folks home.
. . . . splash! . . . . No seriously... The fact that he says "SOME playerS do not believe in the system ANYMORE" leads me to believe: -More than one player will be moved. -"anymore" means they believed in the system at one time, so Im thinking it is some one who has been here a while. As much as Les may be in love with JVG, Im certain JVG would be fired before one of our Superstars is let go. After all they sell the tickets, JVG does not. If by a slim chance, letting one of our Superstars go is one of JVGs "tough decisions", I am going to be PISSED!
Considering Matt Walsh recently worked out with the Rockets, that's the direction they're probably heading in.
I don't understand why they would release Dion without having someone lined up the next minute to replace him.
maybe their working on a 2 for 1 trade? fred jones + anthony johnson for wesley would save the pacers around 5.5 mil of future salary.
considering the moves done so far this offseason i wouldn't hold my breath. (wondering why so many ppl calling cd gm of the year?) but we can't get any worse. can we?
YESTERDAY (Responding to an idea to trade Wesley for Fred Jones) http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=105395&page=3 TONIGHT: WTF!
i still don't think rox can get fred jones for wesley . i was only using it as an example to show rox would most likely have to take on unwanted salary.
For those wanting Spreewell, just keep trying to remember the deal that brought Glen Rice to the Rockets, because that is what Spreewell is, another Glen Rice, a player that USED TO BE really good, but is now past done. If JVG is dumb enough to bring Spree here, I will officially join the FIRE JVG bandwagon, because that would be the last straw. The Old Knick retiree train at the team's expense has to stop somewhere. How many have been here? I have lost count, Oakley, Strickland, Ewing, Ward, Rice.....why?
Well, to be fair, Ewing never played on the team... I'm all for trying to bring in Spree if he'll accept our offer. The problem with Rice was that he was getting paid A LOT. My understanding is we can't really offer Spree much anyway, so if he came here and didn't pan out...oh well..nothing gained, nothing lost
the big negative on that deal was the size of the sign and trade. At best, we can give spre 1.8 mill and that's if we get the med exception for sura. It's like the DA situation, even though he sux, he's not costing us enough to make a difference.
Van Gundy is not the problem. Coaches get TOO much credit when they win and TOO much blame when they lose. PJ is NOT such a genius is he without a dominant force like Shaq or Jordan? Kobe is NOT MJ and will never win anything again. JVG is NOT the only problem and is not the main problem. THere is plenty of blame to go around from the CD to JVG to every single player. Hopefully they will make some changes that will help this team get back on track and at least make the playoffs.
Mark Jackson, Clarence Weatherspoon, Moochie redux, Vin Baker... Welcome to the neighborhood, Mr. Spreewell. How is the family?
About time some of the players realized JVG's old Knicks system is outdated and is easily outcoached. This is a new league with new rules JVG. Get with the program. Tmac saved JVG's butt last season on offense because he was so good. Give the ball to Tmac and let him make the decisions wont work for 48 minutes every year though. It is taxing, and he will break down really fast. In the end you do need offensive sets which are unpredictable to the opposing team. And I am not even going to go into the whole misuse of Yao. Finally some of the players have begun to see it. It has been said that Yao was unhappy about how he was being used. It would be interesting to see how things fold if Yao is one of the "some".
I don't know if this has been posted yet because you guys are really quick. I was excited about the release of Dion Glover who was of no good anyways out probably for the rest of the year with an injury. I thought it would free up a roster spot for a free agent signing or trade. But, I just read in the Chronicle that the release of Glover was most likely a move to create a spot for Chuck Hayes. Ok, he's better than an injured Dion Glover but certainly these aren't the "changes" we have been hearing about are they? Also, it doesn't say it is definitely a spot for Hayes, just that is is likely. JVG doesn't even play Baxter, why sign Hayes? Well, I still think a trade will go down eventually even if this spot was made for Hayes. I have included the Chronicle report below. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Rockets released injured guard/forward Dion Glover, a move likely made to create a roster spot for former Kentucky forward Chuck Hayes. Hayes, who played for the Rockets in the preseason and on their summer league team, has been playing for the Albuquerque Thunderbirds of the NBA Development League, averaging 10.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Hayes, a 6-6 power forward, was MVP of the Portsmouth Invitational camp before the draft and a first-team SEC pick and SEC Defensive Player of the Year as a Kentucky senior. Glover, who played five seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, hurt his right knee on the first day of Rockets training camp and had microfracture surgery last month. He had a non-guaranteed contract, but because he was released while injured, he will be paid until healthy.
