It is that time of the year, Christmas time! So what is your favorite Christmas song by an artist?

Mine is "Silent Night" by The Temptations and coming in second is "Let It Snow" by Boyz II Men.

    What are your's?

I really like Cyrus Chestnut’s remake of A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Off the top of my head, and in no particular order...

Song for a Winter's Night - Sarah McLachlan
Carol of the Bells - George Winston
Here Comes Santa Claus - Doris Day
Holly Jolly Christmas - Burl Ives
Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer - Gene Autry
Frosty the Snowman - Gene Autry
    White Christmas - Bing Crosby
The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole
    Skating - Vince Guaraldi
Twelve Days of Christmas - Burl Ives
    Sleigh Ride - Boston Pops

I can't friggin' stand (DAMN I hate these!):

Santa Claus is Comin' to Town - Bruce Sprigsteen
Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time - Paul McCartney
Happy Christmas (War Is Over) - John Lennon & Yoko "Satan" Ono
Any Christmas song by Kenny G

Gotta go with Nat King Cole's version of The Christmas Song. Mel Torme wrote it and his version is great, but Nat's is the classic.

I was just talking about this with someone - what is the best version of certain Christmas songs?

    Others...

    White Christmas - Bing Crosby
I'll Be Home for Christmas - Frank Sinatra
    Blue Christmas - Elvis
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - I like the Pretenders version myself
My Favorite Things - John Coltrane (ok, a little outside)
Carol of the Bells - George Winston (great call!)

Santa Claus is coming to town by the Jackson Five

Other than that I pretty much hate all holiday music.

Shameless plug: If anyone is in the San Marcos area. The Texas State Jazz Ensemble is performing the Duke Ellington arrangement of Tchaikovky's Nutcracker Suite in Evans Auditorium at 8PM. It it a great piece of music and is the answer to this thread's question.

I don't celebrate Christmas, so I don't know all the songs out there, but I absolutely LOVE 'O Holy Night' by Mariah Carey.

'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year' by Amy Grant is also pretty sweet.

I think the most underrated christmas song and by far the best original pop christmas song is "This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway. Great Song. Why it's not mentioned more often is beyond me.

Nat King Cole? pffft, wtf do you old fogies know about good christmas music.

    Jingle Bells, Batman Smells
    Robin laid an egg,
    Batmobile, Lost a wheel
    And Joker Got away-ay

    Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells
    Santa Claus is dead
G.I. Joe the eskimo shot him in the head
Barbie Doll, Barbie Doll tried to save his life
G.I Joe the eskimo stabbed her with his knife

Now these are classics that will be sung by me and my family for years to come.

This is christmas - John lennon, that song always makes me teary eyed

    So this is Christmas
    And what have you done
    Another year over
And a new one just begun
    Ans so this is Christmas
    I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
    The old and the young

    A very merry Christmas
    And a happy New Year
    Let's hope it's a good one
    Without any fear
    And so this is Christmas
    For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
    The world is so wrong
    And so happy Christmas
    For black and for white
    For yellow and red ones
    Let's stop all the fight
    A very merry Christmas
    And a happy New Year
    Let's hope it's a good one
    Without any fear
    And so this is Christmas
    And what have we done
    Another year over
And a new one just begun
    Ans so this is Christmas
    I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
    The old and the young
    A very merry Christmas
    And a happy New Year
    Let's hope it's a good one
    Without any fear
    War is over over
    If you want it
    War is over
    Now...

Every time I hear that song, I think of the tourism commercials for Jamaica:

    Come back to Jamaica
    What's old is what's new
We want you to join us
    We made it for you
    So make it Jamaica
    Make it your own
    Make it Jamaica
    Your new island home

    Anybody else remember that?
