I hate being called Dr. Of course, if I'm teaching the class they pretty much have to call me that, but I don't want to be a "Dr." when I don't have to. I'd rather just blend in. I participate in other activities around campus like the music ensembles and would prefer to be treated like anyone else. I hate when the choir or band director uses the "Dr." version of my name. I usually make some joke to the effect of, "who's Dr.? I don't know that person." But, while I have an office, may as well hang the diplomas to prove that 1) I survived Rice once, and 2) there technically is a reason to call me Dr. Not that these degrees prove your success or leadership ability in the real world.
Why should I give people something to laugh at? Seriously, I have an Associates in Electronics. It's not necessary. I have other certifications, but believe that it's not what you have - It's what you do.
this is exactly what i did too. wierd i skipped my college graduation to go on a roadtrip to colorado and utah. the day of my ceremony i was at arches national park. i might frame my diploma or something, but the u.t. ones are really plain looking. my high school one looks cooler.
This thread reminds me of the scene in Garden State, when the doctor doesn't have any room left on his wall for his diplomas, so thus he has one hanging from the roof.
My diploma was nice, real sheepskin, hand lettering, etc. My parents had it framed. And now it's sitting in my close. Sometimes I feel like taking it to work as a joke for all the guys who have their Oklahoma State diplomas hanging up there like a degree in Fire Engineering means anything...
