Exactly! If JVG tweaked his system to match the players he has to work with they wouldn't be 4-11 right now. I think JVG has a great work ethic and wants to win, but he's so stubborn he becomes an obstacle for his team to overcome. He has shown some flexibility like starting Head, but he has a long way to go. If you want a good measuring stick on how JVG is adapting to his current roster just look at how he uses Yao. Yao never plays the high post except to set picks and he never uses his ability to pass the ball.
I stand corrected sir, I did indeed mean Droopy Dog! Who, just like our beloved Coach, is always underestimated due to his unimpressive appearance yet always prevails with superior wit and cunning. (Well that and cartoon magic)
Ahhhhh, the question I've been waiting for. Although I think JVG is an excellent coach, one of the top 5 or 6 in the league, there are a couple of adjustments he could make in his coaching that would help him I do believe. 1. Do not run the players into the ground during training camp and the beginning of the season. Players are preparing for 82 games plus the playoffs. I feel that JVG runs his players so hard during training camp and practice that by the time the season starts, they are actually suffering from "dead legs". This is the main factor in their shooting percentages going in the toilet the last couple years. And they are also susceptible to injuries because of muscle fatigue. It causes players to not cut so sharp, and to throw their weight around a little bit more. Too much intensity early on, causes bruises, cramps, knees banging together, and players falling on the floor because of fatigue. JVG should scale it back a little bit early on. Not to say he can't crank down the intensity towards the All Star break and definitely after the break. Ideally, we want to peak come playoff time. We peaked last year late, but we also had to overcome a horrible start. If................TMac hadn't gotten injured, and our players didn't have dead legs, I believe our record could have been the reverse of what it is now. And the players would still be fresher heading towards the meat of the season. All you guys know from playing ball that you have to have recovery time to be able to play at your peak. And the first thing that goes is your legs. We could have won a lot of these early games by simply outscoring opponents. We don't have to give up the defense, especially the closer to playoff time we get. But JVG should back down the intensity level a bit early in the season, through training camp and the first 20 games, and simply do more teaching. Conserve his players energy for the games early. Then as the season progresses, tighten down the screws defensively and in what is required of the players on the floor. JVG's coaching style contributes significantly to our poor shooting percentage from the field, especially early in the season. 2. More positive encouragement early in the season and less negativity towards the players. Let them come out on the floor and enjoy the beginning of a new season and make some progress towards their goals and expectations. The mental stress will help them and make them feel a lot less tired.
Heres the just of it.... Stones Security tried to kick rockets coaches out of their offices. Van Gunday said "We are not leaving" Stones Security "We own the building tonight you have to leave" JVG "Look Dude" Stones Security "My name is not dude" JVG "Look dude this is my office we arent going to ****ing leave" Stones security pushes JVG in the shoulder and says they have to leave. JVG "Did you just touch me? Did he just touch me? If you want to ****ing fight then lets fight" Broken up by TC security
Hilarious, and so believable even if you didn't have great cred here. jopatmc, I do agree with the entirety of your post, and I'm not sure my opinions are correct, but I think there should be leeway for those arguments on either side. Dubious, great pic of Droopy Dog. If we could just get a pylon for JVG to lean on near the bench.
I guess the Stones Security Guy never saw the footage of JVG hanging onto the Alonzo Morning's leg like a pit bull or he wouldn't have shoved him. JVG coached in New York so I'm sure he's been in his share of fights. Cool story.
Oh, c'mon. If you're in charge of Mick or Keith's security you're not going to be too concerned about our lil ol' JVG any more than 99.9% of the world would be.
Excellent comeback! Sometimes we give coaches too much adoration and other times we seem to want to burn them in effigy. Fickle fans that we all are.
Mick to Security Dude: "Ok can you explain to me how I'm supposed to dance on stage with this freakin' bald 'obbit 'angin' on me leg? Don't provoke the 'obbits next time!" Security Dude: "Sorry Mick, me bad."
