Why is it that so many people like to complain that there's too much violence and inappropriate content in movies, but still lack the ability to identify cases where something IS inappropriate?

Went to see Scary Movie 2 the other night, and I swear the flick was almost drowned out by the sounds of toddlers and infants. I mean, come one, at what point does this movie seem like a good one to bring the little ones to? One of my friends next to me looked down at his ticket as joked, "Is this the right movie? Are we in 'Cats and Dogs?'

I remember seeing the same thing when I saw The Cell. Anyone who's seen that knows how graphic that is.

This is a big reason I've never believed in laying a lot of the blame for society's problems on movies/tv, etc.

ahhhh, feels good to get that rant off my chest...

I've felt the same way in movies when I see parents bringing their kids into wholly inappropriate movies.

I've never taken my kids to an R-rated movie. I've let them see a few on video, but only after I've seen the flick and decided that it was okay for one or both of them to see.

It just goes to show you how young parents are these days. Kids having kids who like to take them to the movies....

That's one reason I refuse to go to the movies... you never know when someone's gonna bring a screaming toddler to an adult movie.

I mean get a sitter or wait for the freakin' video. There are some places and situations where kids need to stay home. How bad does a parent have to go see a movie that they have to bring the baby?

On an interesting side note, Jet Li put a warning on his website that parents should not bring young children to his latest movie, Kiss the Dragon, because the scenes were too violent.

He said on Entertainment Tonight that he felt a responsibility to parents to let them know it could be scary for children.

    That's a new one.

Yeah I guess that "R" rating for "Kiss of the Dragon" isn't good enough for some r****ded parents.

You know what pisses me off: those damn phones going off during the movie, and when people actually answer them and say, "I'm at the movies...blah blah blah" How about some freakin' manners- people like that need a good ass kicking. First thing I do when I walk into a movie- turn off phone!

RE: Jet Li. Yeah, that is a new one. But it's good to hear. Of course, that won't stop some people from listening.

And about cell phones, laser pointers: I agree as well. Some idiot kept talking out loud during the movie after a joke, trying to make some of his own. Nobody laughed. I mean, I can understand making a lot of noise - that's what this kind of movie is about, but he kept going long after the joke was over and we were listening for the next one. [IMG]

I guess we can reach a consensus that morons going to the movies is a bad thing.

Most people have a friend or two who wouldn't mind taking on a toddler for a night.

I read quite a funny article on a webpage a couple of months ago about a woman who did this at a ballet. I've seen how annoyed people get at the movies, I can't even imagine the kinds of dirty looks that woman at the ballet was getting.

The stupidity of some people astounds me. Some people would rather b**** about how bad something is and how (this is the key) someone else should do something about it. I saw Silence of the Lambs II and I couldn't believe the number of children there. Or rather, I couldn't believe the number of idiot parents who brought their children to see this movie.

The same thing happened when I (regretfully) saw Eyes Wide Shut.

As for cell phones, I have seen a movie in several years where a phone didn't ring. I want to smash the damn things over the heads of their owners.

Don't movies have a responsibility to watch who they market their movies to? Shrek is a good example. It's not a kids movie but it sure as heck was marketed to kids.

Yeah! I mean how important are YOU, that you can't turn your phone off (or at least turn the ringer off) for a couple of hours while you watch a movie or go out to eat.

Cell phones should be banned in certain places... restaurants, while driving and in movie theaters! (along with kids (yeah.. BAN kids altogether!)) [IMG]

As a parent it is YOUR responsibility to raise your children.

I hate that my industry (making computer games) constantly gets blamed for all the violence in the United States.

Never once do I hear about the problem of the parents not TAKING CHARGE of their kids and making sure they raise them properly.

Nor do I hear about how easy it is to get a gun in this country...Nope it is always about us putting too much violence into our games.

You know what, Games are an escape, and allow people to do things that they otherwise can't do in real life.

It is time for all the parents to stand up and take responibility.

I am a father, and I guarentee, I will KNOW exactly what my kid is doing, or playing on the PC.

For crying out loud, take an interest in your kids.

Damn, Moe...you're living in the 80's or something...ten bucks?? You can't even get an escaped convict to babysit your kid for ten bucks! Most teenagers I've talked too charge 20 bucks PLUS a pizza and unlimited fridge priveledges! Or you can just give the babysitter a key to the liquor cabinet, whichever is more convenient

LOL I don't think computer games get blamed for ALL the violence in the country. They should get blamed for marketing violence to kids though. BTW it's MUCH easier to buy a violent game than it is to buy a gun. [IMG]
