It looks like I'm going to San Antonio to go to the Alamo Bowl this year. I was just wondering if anyone could help out with the best, most affordable places to stay. I've been to the Riverwalk, but never to the Alamodome so I don't really know the layout of where everything is. Ideally I'm looking for a place where I can walk to everything, if that's possible. Also any places I should hit that aren't so touristy? Thanks.
Go to the tower thingie in the HemisFair park. I think that's how it's named. Next best thing to see ALL of San Antone. Also, check out Sea World.
Tower Of The America's? Our company is lighting that for Landry's - San Antonio's version of our Ferris Wheel.
theres a cool old hotel next to the alamo. teddy roosevelt would stay there. theres all these cool b&w pics of old san antonio in the lobby. the hotel is supposedly haunted too. cant remember the name, but its right next to the alamo.
Priceline.com is your friend. Before you bid go to: www.biddingfortravel.com and get an idea of what parameters to set.
Thanks. Man, I loved the HemisFair Arena before it got torn down... I have a "bird's eye view" picture from the Tower from back in 2001, I think, when I went with my wife. I will post it later.
Check this deal out, I'm not sure it is still going on but it's great. If you can find a motel with lower room prices in San Antonio than their Days Inn, then you get a free night in Days Inn. Just have to pay the tax which comes out to like $21. My buddies and I went up there on night and did it. If they give you any crap about it when you get there, just call the national office and they get it squared away.
The Best Western Sunset Suites is down the street to the Alamodome, and it right next to the whole Sunset Station complex. There is also a Holiday Inn Express on East Commerce. Both are close to the dome. For a nice Mexican meal try Rosarios which is on Alamo and St. Marys. It is DT, but not on the riverwalk, so it is not that touristy. Acenar is nice also. There are more and more bars popping up on Houston St. which is a block from the Riverwalk. If you get tired of the Howl at the Moon and Polyesters crowd, you may want to try the bars on Houston. Zen Bar, Davenports, Suede,V-Bar, and Atomar are all within walking distance. There is also H20 Meta-lounge which is off of Lexington rd.
