For those of you who remember, I am against hunting on almost every level. Now I get this in my email: A Tucson, Ariz., international big-game-hunting organization recently pressured the government of Botswana to lift its ban on shooting at the rapidly dwindling lion population, with help from three of the group's highest-profile members, former President George Bush, Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf and former Vice President Dan Quayle. According to a leading Botswana conservationist, rich hunters (safaris cost $20,000 to $35,000) create even further attrition by demanding to kill only mature males, because of their bushy manes, leaving lairs unprotected from other lions. Said the conservationist (to London's The Guardian): "There's no reason to shoot a lion other than ego. As a hunter you want to feel great so you can hang it on the wall and your mates say, 'Wow, what a man!'" [The Guardian, 4-27-01; Chicago Tribune, 5-13-01] UGH! ------------------ It looks like a veteran can Be had.
behad: Pretty damned funny. My two cents: I don't have a problem with hunting for food. Hunting for sport is... disgusting. There's something really repulsive about ENJOYING killing. Life involves consumption... it's unavoidable. But at the same time, I think that all life is special, and it shouldn't be taken with an air of sportsmanship, but rather gravity and an understanding of necessity. Edit: I reread that, and realized how strong I came off. I don't hate all hunters... in fact, it's not something I even hold against a person. It just seems like a twisted sort of thing to do... ------------------ Clutchcity.net... source for all your Rockets, Astros, political, music, humor, and Gordita news. Sorry, I can't link the full article, but here is the headline: Big names backing big-game hunter A U.S. safari enthusiast bearing high-powered introductions raises stir in Botswana protesting ban on hunting lions. and the abstract: In one letter, Chancellor invoked his friendship with [Dan Quayle] and [Norman Schwarzkopf], whom he has led on tours of Botswana, the official said. The correspondence included letters of introduction to Botswana's president from Quayle, Schwarzkopf and former President [George W. Bush]. and the link if you care to buy the article for $2.95: http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/chicagotribune/main/plans.html?QDesc=%5bchicagotribune% ------------------ It looks like a veteran can Be had.
I am a conservative admittedly, and I would like to conserve the lions. Bush, Quayle, and Stormin' Norman should not have signed that letter. If the people of Botswana feel their lions need to be protected, then American hunting clubs should back off. I wanted to read the actual link to see if your source had some political ax to grind, but they did not in my opinion. This is a sad situation, and we need to leave those lions alone. I put the poster up so if anybody wants to complain, they can call the number. ------------------
This is my thread. I am absolutely entirely and whole-heartedly against hunting for sport, and I am also against hunting for food unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. Hunting, is the reason I hate Karl Malone. Hunting, is the reason I hate many conservatives. Hunting, sickens me more than anything else in this world. Hunting, is the reason I am dedicating my life to building a nature reserve for wild animals, such as lions. Hunting is the reason the sight of any of the George Bushes makes me want to vomit repeatedly. There is no reason to hunt anymore. If you want to eat meat, do what I do, and buy it from stores. Hunting for food means that the slaughterhouse animals died for nothing. Hunting for sport, is a disease. It should be illegal in all forms, but it seems that humans are not at a high enough state of development for that. ------------------ Protrolls.com! Holy Crap, Batman, ZRB and Behad agree! Actually, I re-read my original thread in the post above and I saw where you stated your views on hunting. Of course, at that time I didn't know what a pain in the ass you would turn out to be. As for your building a nature preserve, more power to you! Who knows, maybe someday I'll come and visit it. ------------------ It looks like a veteran can Be had.
I would not mind this. . . If the hunters could not use anything longer than a 6 inch knife. You wanna prove you MAN Take a 6 inch knife . . .and you skill and try to kill the lion. . . otherwise it is stupid I just don't like the unfair advantage hunters have. Rocket River ------------------
ZRB - Out of curiosity, do you have the same feelings about fishermen? If not, why not? ------------------
I think you have officially gone overboard. BTW, some conservatives are hunters, but not all hunters are conservatives. I guess you hate some Liberals because they are hunters too? Do you hate Ann Richards, Lyndon Johnson, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and Henry Cisneros? I have read that they have all participated in hunting too. Don't mind me though, I am just trying to take the politics out of this thread... ------------------
I'm not sure if you are talking to me or ZRB. Of course I do not hate hunters. I do hate the idea of hunting. How anyone can take a loaded weapon, go into the animal's territory, and kill it without any remorse for the animal is totally incomprehensable to me. And these safari backers who are trying to force another government to change its laws so that they may profit from rich egotistical bastards who only want to show off the biggest lion mane to their rich buddies is disgusting. An adult male lion is a beautiful (and endangered) animal. But hey, let's try to turn a buck by killing it! Yes, I hate hunting. ------------------ It looks like a veteran can Be had.
Hunting is a very personal thing. Killing the animal is not the climactic pleasure explosion you anti-hunting people make it out to be. Well, not for the vast majority of hunters. Hunting is a time to bond with nature, with your closest friends and/or family, and to have some important time to yourself. And don't go making some joke about my reference to "bonding with nature". Hunters do not go out and shoot everything in sight. Also, do y'all know what the limit for deer is in Texas? ONE per season. Sure, you can go to another state and shoot one more deer (sometimes 2), but out-of-state hunting licenses are ridiculously expensive. Which accomplishes two things: 1. It limits the number of out-of-state hunters. 2. It infuses even more money into environmental programs than in-state hunters. Hunting is no different than fishing, and there are people who fish and do not eat their catch. I personally, think hunting for food is perfectly okay, in fact, I encourage it. I can't go into a store an buy deer meat, so how else am I gonna get it? Oh, and have you ever tasted deer sausege? (OMG, it's good) Hunting for sport is not something I would do. I did it when I was younger though. I shot birds with BB guns for their wings. Nowadays I have more of a respect for life. But, I'm not totally against sport hunting. Also, do you realize how much money licensed hunters pour into the preservation of animals? Tons. Another thing to the poster who said hunting is unecessary. Without hunting many animal populations would become over-populated leading to disease and starvation, and the overfeeding of the animals and plant life they feed on. So, hunting does serve a purpose. ------------------ DREAMer's Rocket Page
DREAMer: Have you ever had Elk steak? That stuff is sooooooooo frickin' good. Anybody who frowns upon hunting for food needs to taste elk . ------------------ Clutchcity.net... source for all your Rockets, Astros, political, music, humor, and Gordita news.
Actually Dreamer, Deer bag limits in Texas are set by the counties that you are hunting in, and you get a total of seven tags with your license. With careful planning, you can actually use all seven tags for a total of seven deer. up to five antlerless whitetails and two antlerless mule deer, or a combination with up to 3 whitetail bucks and one mule deer buck. Close to half a million deer are bagged by hunters in Texas every year, although many more die from poachers, getting hit by cars, and starvation. As many deer there are that are killed by hunters, you might think we'd run out. Quite the opposite actually. They're very prolific, and they don't have too many natural predators left. That coupled with the fact that so many acres are lost each year with man's encroachment, and we end up with overpopulation. That's why the bag limits are a little more liberal (I chuckled when I typed that word) than you probably remember. They loosen the bag limits in the hopes of keeping a healthy herd...and to keep the animals from dying of starvation. But it's never enough, and some people have a problem with that. Not me though. I HATE those filthy animals, and I wish they would ban hunting and let them all starve to death. The only good thing I can say about hunting is the positive economic impact it has on the state. Over 2.2 BILLION dollars is spent every year on just deer hunting alone. Oh well.... ------------------ stop posting my damn signature
Yes I hate some liberals who participate in hunting. I can't hate most of those top democrats, because they make up for their crimes by being pro-environment activists. I hate what they have done, but at least they aren't pro-hunting activists like the Bushes. They may not even still participate. I'm not saying that I hate ALL conservatives because of hunting, I just hate the ones that hunt, and are anti-environment. Yes, I feel the same way about fishing. If you're fishing for trophies, then it is sick. Here is my question to all you hunters out there: If you hunt for the pleasure of "bonding with nature", why do you need to kill the animal? You could still stalk it, use stealth tactics, and do all the things that are supposed to make hunting "fun". Instead of shooting the animal with a gun, you could shoot it with a camera! Let amazing photography be your trophy. Arent animals more amazing alive? ------------------ Protrolls.com! "I want to be like Olajon." -Sagana Diop has the right idea... Keep the ???? alive! Are you a Vegetarian that only wears Atificial Fibers? What is you issue . . Killing Animals period? or Killing animals for some reason that you deem frivilous? Rocket River ------------------
Killing animals for any other reason than food is what I am against. I will wear some animal products if they come from animals killed in slaughterhouses, because at least that is making full use of the animal. The way I see it, animals in slaughterhouses die for nothing if people just go out and hunt. But to sum up, I am against sport hunting. ------------------ Protrolls.com! In your previous post you indicated you were against hunting for food because you can buy meat from a store. Now you say that you are against sport hunting. Are you against both? ------------------
