It's another deja vu all over again thread.

    Welcome back to last week.

That DeLorean from back to the Future is burning a lot of gasoline on this board. :D

BTW I always had high hopes for BadMan. But I hope I'm not already looking forward to next summer league.

    I have an update:

Badiane sucks and V-Span needs work on his handle and running an offense.

Just go ahead and highlight and copy the above text. We'll need it again next offseason.

the update is that generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead, and that badiane still does not, and never had, a chance of playing in the NBA.

Well, since people keep on asking for updates, I decided to see if I could find any. Euroleague.net is pretty informative about Euro games.

Here are the last few games for V-Span:

    Nov. 9

    Nov. 16

    Nov 24, 2005

Not looking too bad, but would like to see better assist numbers/more points. he's averagin 14.2 pts and 3.2 asts on 68% shooting from inside the arc and 40% from 3 pt land. His team, Panathinaikos, is undefeated so far. They play next on December 1 against Unicaja (hey Look, where Daniel Santiago once of the Phoenix Suns landed).

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Here is what i could find on Badiane, but I don't know German so...

    Malick Badiane's 2005 Statistics?

It looks like he is doing pretty good, averaging about 11 and 8 in I guess, 20 something minutes.

Keep in mind that assists are tabulated differently in international basketball. You see a lot fewer assists credited there than in the NBA, so 3.2 asts per game is actually pretty respectable.

    I didn't know that.

What constitutes an assist in international play as opposed to NBA play?

I guess I will be the fool that updates everyone on V-Span this year. I think he has the most potential of our 2 euro players. So I'm going to use this thread to update people on his progress.

He played today and it looks like he did pretty good. Pretty much taking over in the 4th quarter to bring his team back from 13 down, but he did have a key turnover that affected his team's comeback at the end of the game. They lost 82-79.

He scored 23 pts on 8/12 from inside the arc and 1/2 outside the arc. He also pulled down 6 rebounds and dished out 3 assists (euro-style) along with 3 steals.

Here are his complete stats and a recap of the game if anyone is interested.

Here's the most important part of the recap ;)

I wish you guys would forget about those 2. They would be over here playing if they were even remotly ready to play. DON'T YOU THINK? So please forget about them and worry about the guys that are here. Go Rockets!!!

Head reminds me how much a good pick can help the team. Last time it was Yao, a long long time ago.

You say this using the handle "poseyistheman," a player who is no longer with us. Hmmm.... Oh well, back to studying logic puzzles for the LSAT...

looks like vspan is up and down...and i'm sure badiane sucks like he has when he was in summer league. i'm not sure if we'll ever get anything out of those two to be honest with you. at least we got luther head this year. i guess one productive draft pick that is still with the team every four years isn't too bad...

I don't know why people want to denigrate these draft picks either.

I think people are forgetting how many European players spent a lot of time in Europe before coming over. Or how many American players spent time playing college ball before coming over.

This is the same thing. It's sort of like the minors in baseball. Sometimes players take time to develop. Usually later round picks don't make the show immediately, but that doesn't meant that they won't be important in the future.

The Rockets have already said that they expected both of these players to take a little time to develop. There's no reason why we shouldn't have faith in them.

Besides it's fun to follow players that could play for the Rockets. No where are we saying that these players are ready to play right now, but their continued improvement should interest us. After all these are players that management thinks could play for us. They drafted both of them.

I do agree though that there might not be much hope for Badiane as we have seen what he can provide, but Spanoulis hasn't been seen by any of us yet so I am still interested.

Lakovic had the turnover instead of Spanoulis. Here is another link and the recap:

This isn't 1997 - these guys were simply two of a boatload of foreign players who have been drafted in recent years - some who have prospered and some who have busted. what is not in dispute is that they are second round picks - so the odds are against them contributing anything of significance in the nba like Albert burditt, eric meek, etc, rather than turning into Cuttino 2.0

You also don't know what you're talking about. CD fully expected V-Span to be here for the summer league and preseason and said he'd had a "dominant" season last year in Greece.

But V-Span received a $3 mil. contract and it painted us into a corner. CD joked that Spannouilis probably played "a little too well". We decided that it would be better for us to keep the cap room and give him another year in Greece.

I'm not saying he would have made the team this year, but who knows? The problem was and is we're going to have pay him before we even see him and then how long might it take for JVG to trust a "rookie" pg.

I said at the time I wished we would just take the chance this year, and that was before we found out Sura was out for 2 months (sigh) and of course we made the James/Alston trade.
