From that list, Charlie, but Matt and Adam are the best. Matt is the only person in town who bothers to talk about the Cougars without backhanded compliments

I hear they are making alot of changes on fox sports radio. David Stein gone and Andrew Siciliano has moved to the 3rd shift with Jorge Sedano at least for now.

I think 790 had to make that move because FSR now has that gravely voiced guy on in the morning with Krystal Fernandez. That guy is unlistenable.

Charlie is the only one who really knows anything about baseball, but he knows less than I would like. He is by far the most well-rounded in terms of knowing about all sports.

I agree about Wexler, but Jackson is just a Rome wannabe. His attitude schtick is pretty adolescent.

Charlie knows more about sports and is seemingly the most prepared host in this market.

I don't get the argument about being 'loyal' to 610. 610 is an entity. Made up of the on-air personalities. And when the better ones leave, it's kinda anthropomorphic to argue 'loyalty' to the station itself. I can see being 'loyal' to your family. To your wife. To your friends. Hell, even your favorite barber/stylist.

But unless you work for the station (re:Chance) or are getting financial kickbacks like the radio equivalent to a having a Nielson box, then I just don't get the reasoning. But hey, whatever makes ya feel better.

Charlie is good. And if he comes off like he 'knows' that he's good -- a little ego, maybe -- I don't really mind. Because he has the goods to back it up.

Sooo True. All I know is Slocum on a Mobile so I need to hear the real thing to compare. Remember the Mack Brown on a Mobile from aftrer they lost the Holiday Bowl. That one really got some people. "I didn't know blitzing was allowed"

Brand loyalty is something that every company...in every industry...on earth tries to establish.

    Are you a Coke guy?
    Drive a Chevy?
    Dish, Direct, or Time?
    Rockets, Spurs, or Mavs?

I appreciate the posts by people that have etablished a sense of loyalty to 610. Truly. I especially appreciate the guys that day Marc & Rich suck but they muscle through it when they can. And that loyalty pays off by listeners getting to "know" the on-air talent (I use the word loosely with some of us) much more than they will ever know the athletes they watch.

I'm with you on brand loyalty. But in the sports-talk radio business the 'on-air talent' *is* the brand. In other words, if a person says he is loyal to a talk radio station (as opposed to a music station which may breed 'loyalty' based on format and genre) but what he *actually* means is that he's loyal to the personalities on the air -- then I can buy that. That makes sense.

But if, hypothetically, they were blindly allegiant to the station no matter *WHO* was behind the microphone simply because it was 610, then I would wonder about that person. Because, at the end of the day, the product is your personalities. Unlike Coke, I don't get to drink you. Unlike Chevy, I don't get to drive you. Take away the on-air talent and all we have is a building with alot of equipment in it. So if by "being loyal" means simply wanting to support the station because of John, Lance, Marc, etc...then I get that.

Lately Charley's show has been harping on the Astros/Clemens/abritration situation. That gets old real fast.

Friday's Vandy/Lord show should be unlistenable with Lord rambling on and on about the Stones concert he attended. That guy seems to get more days off than anyone on the radio. (Lucky b*stard.)

I've said it many times and I'll say it again, Rich lord sucks! CP carried his ass when they were on together and Vandermeer sounds lost if the subject moves off anything not football. I will admit that CP has that "know it all schtick" but he can back it up with his sports knowledge. Lord and Vandermeer like to talk about everything other than sports, I really don't care to hear the debate on who the greatest guitar player was/is. I tune into a sports radio station to hear about sports, when they learn that they'll be better off.

I think Van Earl has been gone for a while and I'm guessing David Stein replaced him. I don't listen in the AM so I'm not sure. That apparently didn't work and now they have Scott Ferrall. How they think people can listen to that guy daily is beyond me. Anyone remember when he was on locally in Houston for a day when Pallilo was on vacation? Horrible.

As for the topic. Charlie Pallilo definately, but I find myself switching to 610 at 6pm instead of 7pm for Matt and Adam more and more. Those guys are perfect together. Matt goes just over the edge and Adam is always there to reel him back in before he goes completely over.

Chance, As a long time listener going way back before Jerry Trupiano at 740 am- and someone who has been with 610 from the beginning of the sports format- here's my feedback for ya. (I listen most every day some)

    1. Lance's NFL connections are strong.- John and Lance have good chemistry.
    2. Charlie and Rich had good chemistry.
    3. Rich really comes across as a transplanted Houstonian even though he's been here a few years. Just doesn't come across as one of us. I think he feels his hatred of the Cowboys helps but he always has to let us know he hates them as a Giant fan. Rich is ok, but his chemistry with Mark suffers because they are alike and in agreement most times. The best thing they had going recently was there football picks.
    4. Mark is pretty good, he seems honest and he tries to identify himself with Houston sports. I think Houston fans are extra sensitive to our local sports because we have lived with some of that we don't get 'respect' nationally syndrome. We like guys like Bum, Calvin, Nolan, Biggio, Bull, Andre, Kevin B. who we know are home guys.
    5. Mark and Rich really need to focus more on sports. They overplay the movie, music, hot-women stuff. Sprinkle it in, but give us a hard core sports show. That is what we like about Matt and Adam (not that they are without fault) but they are hard core on sports.
    6. Matt and Adam really come across with a passion for Houston sports. You can listen to them 30 minutes and get it. They really can wear on you if you don't like their style (hip) but they bring it as far as sports focus.
    7. I would suggest looking for a place for Rich with someone who is strongly focused on Houston sports. You khow what would be wild is to find a strong personality who is a local sports guy to team with Rich, a 'homer' with attitude. Calvin Murphey- Bill Yeoman type. Or maybe a combination.
Mark V. did fine by himself, but I would suggest teaming him up with someone else- maybe even Jeremy.

Well I realize how competitive the market is and just wanted to throw you some feedback.

As far as 790- I don't listen to it at all primarily because Dan Patrick and Charlie P. both fit into my - 'Ego' mania category. Can't handle someone who 'thinks' they are right all the time. Especially when they really believe it.

    Later :)

I don't get why some people feel Charlie is arrogant. the guy is smart. the guy was a rhodes scholar candidate. he probably could have gotten a national show a long time ago. he may come across as arrogant, but it isn't contrived. he knows his stuff.

that being said, one day john mcclain was talking about steve mcnair and how chris chandler didn't want mentor him when he first came in the league. so he was calling chandler arrogant and pompous and all these other things, and I was on hold during the rant. they came to me soon as he finished and I said, "john, you sure that qb you were describing wasn't named charlie pallilo. charlie didn't say anything during my call.
