DirecTV with 2 TIVOs and one reg box, I have DSL via the local phone company here in Katy.. as soon as TW can get me digital phone out here in Katy I will make the switch to TW with TV/DATA/VOICE/ALARM.. the only thing that makes me want to stay with DirecTV is I already have 2 DirecTV TIVOS and the TW "DVR" GUI is like an old 8bit NES and there are ADs all over the place.. If TWs DVRs were TIVO or they would let you upgrade I wouldnt even blink over the switch..

Agreed. Those channels made me appreciate mountains with snow, rain forests, sea life, roller coasters and even rodeos much more than I ever had before. :D

    Best. Channels. Ever.

Get them to do the basic installation and while they are there tell them you want to make sure that your signal strength is good for HD some time down the road. The a week later go to a TW service center (there is one off 290 & fairbanks and one off 249 at spring cypress that I know of) and switch your normal cable box for a HDDVR box and hook it up yourself. It's easy and you will save what ever they charge for HD installation.

I have DirecTV+DSL+phone for around 100 bucks a month. So far I really like DirecTV, more so than Cox Cable which is what I had before. I have lost signal once so far in about 3 months that I have had DirecTV. I didn't toltaly lose it, it just went in and out for only about 5 minutes. I'd go DirecTV if I was you.

I didn't even have to do that. I just called them and said I wanted to upgrade and they sent a tech out to install it free of charge. You are correct that it's extremely easy to hook it up yourself.

Clutch Ive been heavily researching the TVs for the past couple of weeks.
If you give me the size and price range you are looking for I may be able to tell you where you can still find some great deals.

My brother in law just bought a Samsung 26" LCD HD FLAT PANEL TV from Connns for $1200, 0% intrest for 36 months! this was during balck friday though.

How can you possibly enjoy HD with only a 26'' TV..kinda defeats the purpose if you ask me.

It was for his cramped bedroom. He was looking for a 32" but couldnt justify the $400-600 price difference for 6". I dont blame him. The 26" Looks fine in that room.

    ROCKSS,
With that amount of money you have a lot of options.
Do you know how big of a set you are looking for?
If not then tell me this...
What type of room it is going in?
How far you plan to sit from it most of the time?
Does it need to be truely flat???

Let me know and I may be able to help you more.

I really like the value (price) and style of the Samsungs. But I am also a big time Sony fan.

Im looking at a Circuit City ad right now for a 42" Samsung DLP (not truely flat, but slim projection) for only $1799.

Right now I have a 36 flat screen Sony Wega and love it, buts 4 years old and weighs about 500 lbs ;)

I would like to get a 42-50+` inch screen

It will be for the living room and we will be sitting approx 8-9 feet away at any given time. Doesnt need to be flat, but I do prefer the falt becayse I can sit anywhere and get a good picture.

    I really appreciate the help

wesnesked and VooDooPope - thanks for the tips.

I just measured and I'm guessing I will have couches 9 feet or so away from the TV... it's a good-sized living room. I don't even have couches yet (furniture shopping ... ahh, another thread), but I'm guessing they would be about that far away.

Gummi -- I was thinking I might even want a screen in the 65 in. range. As far as most I would pay ... I'd probably go up to $3K-3500 if it was an incredible, well-reviewed TV. If I could get a great TV at a great price, say in the $1-2K, that would be ideal.
