I know there was a thread back regarding a missing dog well, here is another one. My dog escaped out the garage when my dad opened it and he's been missing since yesterday. I've checked the animal clinics and called the shelters so far and no luck. Been driving around the neighborhood and all up and down for about a 2-3 mile radius. I live around the w.bellfort @ s.gessner area so if any you guys live around there and see the dog please let me know. I can be reached at 713.732.6280 and I'm offering a cash reward. I provided pics but for those who can't view it, he's a small Jack Russell Terrier wired hair. He's white with a black mask and a black spot on his back. He responds to the name Max and has a tag on him with his name and my phone number on it. He has his rabies shot but his tag fell off recently and I have it here at home but haven't had a chance to put it back on. Thanks Mike
Any tips on people who have had success finding their dogs after they've been lost would be helpful too. I'm trying anything I can think of. And to add insult to injury my radiator light came on while posting signs around the neighborhood.
Good luck man, did you guys put up signs? When my dogs have gotten away in the past they always seem to work well.
Offer a reward on the signs, 20-50 bucks motivates kids and teenagers to look... I found quite a few things when I was growing up because I saw reward signs, like sets of keys and missing pets.
I posted signs and handed out flyers to others I saw walking their dogs. I got one call the next day, but when the lady tried to feed my mom's dog, the dog apparently got bored and left before she could. To compound things, the dog didn't have her tags on, and is mostly deaf. We think someone entered our backyard and she took off, because the other two dogs were still stuck in the backyard. We were lucky, the next day, she was at the mailbox my mom usually checks for mail at. She seemed to have taken a little vacation, because she wasn't hungry or thirsty. Hopefully your dog will come back too. I'm going to train the other dogs to respond to a keychain whistle, so it'll be easier to find them if they take off again. Of course now my mom knows she must always put the tags back on after she washes them.
The weather will be good this week. Just keep up with the shelters and ESPECIALLY the city pound. Check with the city CONSTANTLY as they are pretty merciless...
Thanks for all the advice. This isn't the first timehe's run away. My dad is just absent minded when it comes to the garage door. When i open the garage he just runs to my car door waiting for me. nice way to come home and have someone greet you I have a 2nd dog and she didn't run out though. She seems pretty depressed as the 2 are pretty inseparable except for now.
Sorry to hear that man. Ironically, my sisters dog got out today becaue of me. I put her in the backyard and she went out a hole she dug. I feel asleep and they were in the backyard for like an hour or so this morning. I wake up, and only 1 dog is in the backyard and all muddy. The other is gone. I found it down the street though...luckily. It doesn't wander, it just likes to get out and tromp around. Man, were they muddy.
So we went around the neighborhood looking for the dog and I posted some more signs and even got the cops that patrol my area on the lookout as well. I get to the back part of my hood and notice a lot of barking dogs. I also have my second dog with me as well as to just take her along. She hears all the barking but is calm as anything. We get to one part of the neighborhood and we hear one bark but can't tell where it's coming from but the minute our 2nd dog hears it she starts going nuts and barking back. We drive around but can't pinpoint exactly where it's coming from but we can tell she's zoned into that one bark cuz none of the other barks are getting her attention. I get home and ask my dad about which direction he took off in and he says towards that back neighborhood. Tomorrow I'm gonna focus on posting more signs up there and going door to door in that area. Hopefully my 2nd dog will be able to sniff him out. Do dogs have that sort of sense? Can they specifically sense one another out like that? I sure hope so, she may be the only one that can help find him at this point. It's pretty sad cuz my 2nd dog just seems devastated w/o him as well as I am and my g/f.
Good advise by Rocket G, make sure to GO and look.. when I was little one of my dogs got out for the day and some how got her tags taken off and was picked up by the catcher, but over the phone they said there wasnt a dog there that looked like her.. We thought it would be a good idea just to go look just in case.. my dog was at the pound all along .. never hurts to check..
