These lines have started appearing in microsoft word at the corners of my documents, someone please help me get rid of them, i have attached a picture showing you what i mean... they look like this __| |__ at the corners of the document ....
i caant type like that, its annoying. I always type in the print layout, it gives me better view of the document, but like this thing really sucks...
When I type in Print Layout, I have those lines on my Word documents too. As far as I know they won't affect your document when you print them or anything (i.e., they should not show up on your printouts). I always thought they were just margin indicators.
That is not a margin indicator because when I edit my margins the freaking lines stay at the same place... thx for the info about the other stuff
Go to "file" "page setup" Change the top and bottom margins to zero. That should get rid of the margin indicators (it did for me). Before you print, go back and change the margins back to your preferred margins.
it gets rid of them, but the point is that its still there for the long run, and i really dont wanna do this repetetive process... i hate microsoft
Sorry you are having trouble getting rid of those lines. Just out of curiosity, why are you in a rush to get rid of them? Do they just annoy you, or have they caused any problems when trying to print or edit the document? Just wondering since I have never really thought about those lines until you brought them up. I actually like them, because they let me see the layout of where everything will "fit" when looking at multiple pages (especially those that don't have text all the way to the bottom). I guess you could set your default page setup to no margins to get rid of those lines (per vwiggins response) and then reset them to whatever you want before you print the document, but that seems like a lot of trouble to get rid of them in the first place.
Not sure if this still applies to the version of Word you have, but there's usually a template called normal.dot that Word opens automatically when you start a new document. Try opening that file and editting it. If you have a particular font type and size, color, etc. that you use, you can have it all set up so that there's no need to go through the whole setup process. Hope that helps at all.
Did they just start appearing after you downloaded Office XP off the net and they did not appear in your previous version of Office (whatever that version was)? I ask because on my paid for version of Office XP Pro the marks appear (regardless of how text boundaries is checked). On the version that I am licensed to use at my office (Office 2000), the marks don't exist. I assume it is a feature of Word XP Pro.
Thanks for all the help guys, but it still didnt work... it never occured on office xp, the non pro version... i guess its a built in pro version thing... o well, gotta live with it... and i tried open office, but that just sucks...
