We have the most egregiously misused talent of any team in the league...we have two unstoppable offensive forces IF you allow them to play to their strengths!
I know it's a pipe dream, but we have the horses to thrive in an Adelman-type offense that stresses ball and off-the ball player movement, an offense... which by the way, SHOULD have won a championship were it not for some bad luck and questionable calls against the Lakers.

VG needs to stop with all the referencing to "what type of player" he wants..."fighting spirit" "competitiveness" yeah we know already, but the great coaches don't keep yapping about it to the press...they get their players to actually prove it out on the court. Moreover, it's BS to call out these particular guys ....most of these players are veterans who have sacrificed something to be on this team...that they have failed miserably on the court this season is a direct reflection on YOU as a coach, specifically your inability to optimize your team's talent and put them into the best possible position to succeed. Instead of talking about what YOU want from your players....maybe it's the players that should be talking about what THEY need from a coach...like a decent offense that plays to their strengths and is not so damn predictable that it makes them look incompetent.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Jeff for the Francis skip-it-up-the-court and then jack up a fade away after dribbling down the shot clock era....but this is a new crew that is inherently much more disciplined and capable of some autonomy on the offensive side.

Damn, at this point I might even take Pete Carisle.

Adelman has no defensive teaching. JVG's teams are built for the postseason. This will all seem like peanuts in the grand scheme of things.

shouldn't posts like this be made only after JVG has had a chance to coach both players you're referencing during this year and show what he can do with them?

You also seem to have left out last year's 2nd half, when everything clicked. Instead you went straight from Francis to a T-Mac-less now.

We certainly can use some of Rick Adelman's offense game plan. Maybe as an assistant coach? ;)

I am actually wondering if JVG will quit again, like he did to Knicks. Seven loss streak is hard to swallow for any coach in the league.

If JVG were to quit, he would lose all respect and credibility as a coach.

this is getting ridiculous and seriously annoying... I just finished reading VG's post game quotes where he takes no responsibility whatsoever and throws his players under the bus by saying they have drilled the p&r defense and they still have no clue...geez I never heard Phil Jackson or brother VG lament on how poorly Shaq plays the P&R, for which he is infamously poor...yet OUR VG needs to rip Yao and Stro rather than take any blame himself.

Maybe it's fine to rip them once or twice in the paper... but if it ain't working after "all this time of drilling it into them" then maybe there is something wrong with your teaching method or your strategy. Not all players are capable of playing the same type of defense, and as a coach it is YOUR job to come up with suitable alternatives...i.e, zones, traps, etc...

he hasnt been in the league long and hes still young for a coach, hes also has had a winning record in every year since he became a coach, i think he'll get a ring by the time he retires....this article might give people more hope with jvg

    (1) Of course the league posts glowing bios for each of its head coaches.

    (2) Mr. Van Gundy is no newbie head coach. You are so fond of the NBA site, count his total number of years (Rockets and Knicks) as a head coach. Compare them to some of the other active coaches not named Jackson, Brown, or Sloan.

Actualy he DID take responsibility as a coach during the press conference for not getting the players to execute proper PnR defense.

JVG has had playoff success as a coach, even taking the 8th seeded Knicks to the NBA Finals one year. Adelman has never made the Finals. If we got rid of JVG, there is no way we should bring Adelman in. If you think this team is soft now, you ain't seen nothing yet. They weren't called the Queens for nothing. I'll admit running the Princeton offense would be better than JVG's offense.
