are we so focused on defense and low scoring? Shouldn't we be more like the Suns and offense orientated? Always play to your strengths.

    1. Yao is not suited to any run and gun type of offense that you wish for.
    2. T-Mac and Swift are the only above-average athletes the Rockets have at their respective positions.
    3. You have to go back to the Showtime Lakers to tell me a team that won a title with a fastbreak philosophy.

Those are pretty obvious reasons why we don't run and gun. If that is difficult to understand, perhaps you should follow a sport that would be easier to understand such as bowling.

You cannot have a phoenix suns style offense with someone as slow as Yao, its just not possible. JVG does fine with what we have IMO.

I'm not saying we should be run and gun, we are obviously not suited for that type of game. But I'm wondering why do we expend so much energy on defense and stifle our own offense when we have two great offensive weapons?

If we have a scoring champ and an unstoppable force in the paint, wouldn't we be better served by speeding up the tempo of the game?

Run and gun dosent win you championship, well unless you have magic Johnson as you're Point guard, then frget it. The mavs and the suns have tried in the past and they both are still nowhere near as good as the defensive minded Pistons or the spurs.A healthy rockets team is built for the playoffs.

So bascially you are saying that we should just not play defense and hope Yao can be effective on the offense? If T-Mac comes back, then I think we'll do great either way, because T- Mac will lead this team out of its current rust. And I rather we continue to play defense like we do right now because that's what we'll need to win in the post season.

the suns will never win a championship playing the way they play if they dont play defense, they are made for regular season but not postseason

    Let's see...

    last year's playoffs....

    Suns played in Conference finals
    Rockets played in 1st round.

Yup, Rockets are closer to winning a championship.

How do you play to your strength when he's sitting in a suit on the sidelines?

    EDIT:

zboy --- McGrady is more important to his team than Stoudamire. Yao virtually shut down AS when we played them last year. Bruce Bowen, "the best defender in the league", couldn't stop Tmac from dropping 13 in 35 seconds.

Compared to a healthy Rocket's team, given time, the Suns will be nobodys, Amare or not. EDC and crew doubted JVG last year, and then disappeared during the winning streaks. Hopefully, for the true Rocket fans, that will happen again.
