We need our own Joe Clark type coach to turn this ship around. Attitude change is priority #1. This RIGHT HERE LADIES & GENTLEMEN is the pep talk that the Houston Texans need TODAY. MAKE IT HAPPEN Mr. McNair, if it is the only thing you do today with your life http://www.americanrhetoric.com/MovieSpeeches/../mp3clips/newmoviespeeches/moviespeechleanonme1.mp3 FAIR EASTSIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIDE...
I am not going to argue that VY is going to be a pro bowler or future MVP, there is no way of knowing that. At the same time there is no way for anybody to know if he is going to be a bust. What I think everyone can agree on is that the guy has a very unique set of skills for a qb. From what I have seen I think that VY could be everything that Mike Vick is and possibly more. Now, if the Texans were to follow what I proposed they would have Carr starting in VY's rookie year with VY set to go in year 2. In that year Ferguson would be a 3rd year player on an offensive line that hopefully will be vastly improved. AJ leads a receiving corp with a veteran Mathis and Gaffney as well as a potential impact receiver in Reggie McNeal. That is a team with a load of offensive potential, so it is not like VY would have to shoulder the load by himself. Regardless, this all a moot point. VY will much more likely than not never suit up for the Tejanos, but if my "dream" were reality I think that we would be MUCH improved.
Why does everyone want to draft vince young or reggie bush? Our running game is already decent, just an offensive line and it can be one of the best. How much do yall really think Bush will do for us in comparison to the best defensive player in college football on the worst defense in pro football. Same thing with Young. I think Carr is an above average QB, as he proved last season, but just needs the proper protection. Young will struggle with our O-line. You might say he can run, but Carr is in the top 3 for QBs in the running game. How much will Young really help, he isnt a better passer than Carr.
Has Vince already said he's coming back? His stock probaly won't get much higher. I don't see him coming back.
I think nsane is exactly that. This team is obviously more than 2 players and a coach away from being good.
If you read my post more thoroughly you will see that I said 2-3 years after hiring Jimmy Johnson we would have a winner.
Why wait a year before firing the current staff though? You think getting a better draft pick next year is worth another year of crappy draft picks this year and a lack of talent development, in addition to one fewer year getting experience in a new system? How does waiting make us better more quickly?
My thinking is that if we get Reggie this year and do nothing else we will still be the worst team in the NFL. Which in turn, will give us the first pick the following year. I think Andre, Reggie and Vince or whomever Jimmy wants as the first pick plus Total control over personnel will lure him away from his cush job at Fox. It will take a lot to do that. The whole purpose for this plan is to get Jimmy Johnson. And if this plan doesn't seem feasible whatever it takes is fine with me. Jimmy is not stupid. I doubt he would want to come here right now in this situation. He would probably want to go to a situation that has some promise. Right now we've got Dunta, Andre, Mathis (Domanick is injury prone) and the rest don't really matter. We need more than that if we want to get a Jimmy Johnson. It would be different if he was chillin' on his couch dying to get a job. But he likes where he is and it will be hard to get him to give that up and come bust his a$$ for us and bring us a winner. Those Dallas teams were powerhouses with unbelievable talent at every position. And he commanded their respect. It would be great to see that in Houston. Man, I would take something that just resembled that at this point.
I have spent thousands of dollars over the course of 4 seasons. It's very difficult for me to see the product on the field. Somehow, I don't see you being a season ticket holder. If McNair came up to me and said he was tanking the rest of the year and all of next year to get the top pick, people would lose respect for him (including his team). People wouldn't want to play here. I wouldn't buy anymore season tickets. No one pays to watch a team lose. I want an owner that makes the right decision at the right time. We're never going to draft Bush and we're not tanking the next 22 games. After this season, McNair needs to: 1. Give Cass and Capers their walking papers. 2. Draft to repair the weakness. Our running back is not the best, but he's fine for now. Carr is going to get better, with a better line. I disagree with your free advise.
Here's another question to throw out there (not meaning to derail the thread...): What will be your stance, as a fan, if for some reason Capers and Casserly aren't fired after this season? Personally, I would be more angry than I think I've ever been sports-wise, and I'd definitely have to re-evaluate my stance as a Texan fan. I'm writing this because after every week I wonder why at least Capers hasn't been fired yet. It's not like you CAN'T fire a coach in the middle of a season. It leaves me perplexed and wondering whether or not these two are going to be kept whenever I wake up every Monday morning and see that they're still being payed.
swilkins-there is no way that we are going to be a .500 team next year, so if you're going to be bad why not try and get as much of a benefit from it as you can? the only thing worse than a losing team is a team that is just good enough to stay mediocre for years. look at a team like Boston (Celtics). with Pierce and Walker they were never going to compete for a championship but they were good enough to be a middle of the pack team year in and year out. I for one plan on being a Texans fan for the rest of my life, so I can deal with a crappy year or two if we can acquire the type of talent that can eventually help you win a super bowl.
After each week I wonder what excuse people will make for David Carr, here are the best ones so far: 1. Its an expansion team, give him time. 2. Offensive line sucks 3. Receivers are hurt 4. Receivers run bad routes 5. Receivers drop balls 6. Conservative play calling, won't let him throw downfield 7. Played against a good defense 8. He is gun shy or has "happy feet" because of the O-lines problems 9. He doesn't look off defenders because of bad coaching I've heard it all at this point, when the reality is DAVID CARR SUCKS! (Matt Jackson agrees with me)
and remember..his qualifications include being a kick-ass caller to a sports radio show for many years!!!
As bad is our offense is...our defense is twice as bad! Trade down and grab AJ Hawk and get an OL in the late 1st, early 2nd
LET NOT BE DUMB.....McNair is smart so he is not going to flat out say WE ARE TANKING NEXT SEASON. All he has to say is we are in a transition phase. Yes we are losing money and ticket holders. some of that will be gained back when we draft bush. Then some will be lost when we lose, then draft Vince young and hire Jimmy Johnson. Then we will have Vince , Bush, and Johnson. The holy trinity coupled w/ Coach Jimmy Johnson. Winning cures everyting!!!!! Playoffs win back fans...AND THEN SOME!!!!
Why do people have this idea that A) we'll even draft or be able to draft Bush and Young B) that they, along with Andre, are the saviours for the team C) assuming they take the team to great heights all three would be able to stay with the salaries they'd most likely command D) Jimmy Johnson would come here based on 3 guys and E) Jimmy Johnson is the answer to our coaching prayers. Guys, fix the weaknesses first... QB, RB...those aren't our weaknesses. And Jimmy isn't the only potential coach out there. Personally I wouldn't mind going after Jeff Fisher if he were to become available.
