Everything you bring up is the past and as for Francis, you do remember that the Roxs made it to the playoff for the first time in a long while. edc, man I don't get you, did Van Gundy run over you kitten or something, don't you ever get tired of repeating the same thing over and over and over
Yes, and all this was stated last season until they started winning. Keep in mind, that was a "Mavz" team that should've steamrolled the Rockets. That series should never have gone to 7 games especially considering we had no PF to speak of, and they had one of the best in the league.
Those who don't heed the past are doomed to repeat it. What year is the following quote from? 2005? 2004? 2001?
i agree. remember that mario was interviewed for an assistant coaching job when van gundy came in. i remember him saying that him and jvg watched/broke down some games together and mario was very impressed w/ jvg and hoped to get the job. too bad we didnt get him. i think he could light a fire under some of these guys butts when needed. he is the only guy who was ever able to get david robinson to show some emotion! it would also be really cool to have someone from the championship teams with the current group. it would add a certian degree of continuity and regal legitimacy, me thinks.
Blame Mr. Van Gundy. Word is, he wanted no part of Mario, and the interview was "forced" upon him. Oh, there is plenty of continuity from that first championship. Unfortunately, almost all of it was on the losing bench...
I agree with you. Le$ isn't going to be willing to pay off that contract, so the Rockets are stuck with Mr. Van Gundy for at least another eighteen months.
Maybe if you could find a way to give JVG cancer Les would can him even with that time left on the deal. But maybe not since he's from NY.
How sad The team is on a losing streak and hasn't even played ten games this year and people are calling for his head. I guess some people forget the second half the year we had last year. Not to mention what some of the players (including T-Mac) actually say JVG is the best coach they've played for. T-mac is out, we've got several new faces in our line-up and our November schedule is BRUTAL. The whole "sky is falling" thing is getting quite old. I think JVG proved last year that he is a good coach and I can't understand the obsession some have with Larry Brown (can the guy stay anywhere for more than two years?) plus to act like he is far superior to JVG by comparing rings is really quite ludicrous. Brown has exactly one more NBA Championship ring than JVG and had Detroit not lucked out when Portland and Altanta not had the fire sale with Rasheed Wallace - Brown would still not have a ring. Give JVG a break - he recovered last year, and who's to say he can't or won't do it again. After all, didn't Phil Garner do almost exactly the same thing with the 'Stros this year and last.
(1) Phil Jackson is far superior to Mr. Van Gundy by comparing NBA rings. Larry Brown is far superior to Mr. Van Gundy comparing winning at all levels. (2) Mr. Van Gundy is not Phil Garner. The Astros' manager has a history with the organization and the city of Houston.
1) Red Auerbach has just as many rings as PJ. Should we hire him? 2) Well, I don't quite see the difference - Phil Garner led the Astros back from a more than miserable start last year, and JVG did exactly the same thing. PG did the exact same thing ithis year and only time will tell as to whether JVG will be able to have the same kind of results Garner did. If you can't see the similarities - take your damn blinders off.
Honest question - Are you a Rox fan or do you just love PJ? I ask this, b/c I was all for firing JVG last Dec. - he was making absolutely no progress and I felt he was hindering the team. However, since then I feel that he has not only changed the directionof this team, but changed his strategy as well. If you can't beat 'em - join 'em...and I see the progress JVG has made.
In a Rockets basketball context, yes we suck cuz I'm a Rocket fan, rain or shine. I don't flip-flop. And you, you just admitted you suck in a different context...
