I can just imagine Vlade hearing a gunshot and flopping to assume the "I'm dead, y'all can move on" position. What kind of army would want a 7-foot guy with a bad back (or whatever problem he had)?
From wikipedia: It is always difficult for me to untwist tangled web of post-Yugoslavian politics, but I imagine that there could be some sort of politicaly or ideologically motivated. Aparently the seperate states of Serbia and Montenegro don't even particularly get along too well. I do know that there are towns in the Serbian areas where the western half of the town is physically seperated from the eastern half of the town (i.e. a river runs through the center of town and all the bridges have been demolished) and people on both sides actively speak of how much they hate the people on the other side.
There's no way the Serbian government can actually do anything to him. At worst, he just never goes back to Serbia again. I highly doubt we have any extradition agreement with Serbia and Montenegro.
Lets see, we're going after a 37 year old, 7-foot guy with a bad back for not joining out military. I'm sorry, your military sucks if you need that guy in there!
Well, Vlade isn't going to get jail time... http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/37985/20051118/army_charges_against_divac_dropped/
Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica came to the player's defense. Kostunica said Divac had "proven his patriotism innumerable times during his long career" in basketball. ....I agree with what this guy said. Vlade comes back over and helps out every off-season and contributes millions of dollars, why would they want to put him in prison? And like several have said, a 37 year old 7 foot tall man with a bad back and bad knees isn't exactly a perfect fit to join the military. I'm sure he'd blend in real well and not call any attention to himself. Leave Vlade alone!
