http://houstonchronicle.com/ I was shocked to see them finally give their drab web page a new look. Now if I can just find my way around.
Agreed. I like the old layout better, as far as the front page goes. Maybe they will keep tweaking this new one.
It is a little buggy at the moment. Some articles take too long to come up. I'm sure it will improve. I see they added a new Rockets forum to their site. Currently 0 posts.
Uhg - It's horrible. Just report the stories, leave the bells and whistles for the crappy local network news.
I don't mind the bells and whistles... if they WORK! I used to love the Chron because it loads faster than my local newspaper (LATimes). Now it is just crawling... I hope this gets fixed soon.
Wait, did they always have the "Comics" section? They have them all the way back to 1998, so thats pretty cool.
They still seem to have the old design online as well for now: http://www.chron.com/content/chronicle/sports/basketball/index.html New one: http://houstonchronicle.com/sports/rockets/
They've always been there; in fact, I think that's how I've been keeping up with my comics since 1998. Since I've been living in towns that didn't have good newspapers, I haven't subscribed to a paper one in a while.
This just goes to show the Chronicle has no pride in its identity as a newspaper. This is what 104 years as a publication is reduced to? Look at the New York Times or Wall Street Journal sites, they retain the look and feel of their paper editions. Granted the Chronicle isn't either one of those publications, but maybe this is why. If you weren't from Houston, would you have any idea what "chron.com" is? If you looked at Chron.com and the Houston Press website, which one would you say has more information? *Eureka! Less info per page = More pages = More adspace.
As someone who has created many websites in the past... that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Also, the Chronicle is rather popular... it is quoted on various nationwide news channels and talk radio shows all the time.I don't generally read the Chronicle because I think the vast majority of their writers are blooming idiots, but their new design is much better and more sophisticated to the "average" user. This is 2005, not 1998... bout freaking time they realized that.
The internet is ever changing, if you don't update websites or change formats every once in a while, it gives a feeling that you are falling behind. Just because they went with a new format, it shows they don't have any pride as a newspaper? It looks a little funny right now but so does everything when you make a major change to something that you've probably seen everyday of your life for the last 5 years. You'll get use to it after a while. Probably not, but I'm sure a lot of people know what "Houstonchronicle.com" is. Chron.com is just an easier way to get to the website for the people who go there the most, Houstonians.
