Man this is pathetic everytime we lose, you guys start **tching. The next day you see a hundred posts about how Yao is soft, Wesley sucks or DA is weak, or how our team has no chemistry. Hey its a new team! Give them time to gel, it's gonna take till about January. So all you fair weather fans can come back then.
How is criticizing a team being a fairweather fan? A fairweather fan is, by definition, someone who is only a fan when the weater is fair (i.e. the team is doing well). People who are posting about the problems are obviously watching the games and still on board with the team. If a person watches a game and doesn't get frustrated with this team they either A) don't understand basketball B) have had a frontal lobotomy or C) need to tell me who's writing their Lithium prescriptions for them. I'm kinda getting tired of these "give 'em time" threads. Well, we are all giving them time, we're still watching aren't we? Part of being a sports fan is b****ing. And if you don't like the b****ing then don't read the threads. But don't come out and start bashing people as "fair weather fans" because they don't like the direction the team is going in. What is the point of trying to question what kind of fans board members are? It's really pretty sad. Are you trying to make yourself feel better by painting yourself as a 'true fan' while everyone else who has a different opinion is somehow disingenious? That's almost as sad as people trying to prove who gets more upset about a loss or who has a more unhealthy fixation on the team. I think you'd be a lot better off if you just took a deep breat, realized that they are fans in their own way, and then let it go. That'd be a lot easier than impuning the integrity of other fans via this thread. P.S. - A lot of people who have been critical have been board members for much longer than you and put up much higher post counts. I don't think they appreciate someone just jumping out and taking shots at them when they've put a lot of time, effort, and money into this board and this team.
ya still have the right to criticize listen....... It's aboot dignity, It's aboot respect, It's aboot, It's aboot... What are you laughing aboot?
What? How does that make sense? One gets the sense that many people here already believe all hope is lost after eight games. That's what's frustrating. If you don't like people b****ing about the b****ing, don't read the threads. So, they're right because they have higher post counts? I'm all for b****ing about the b****ing. There are 74 games left. We just lost to the defending champs by six whole points. With our best player hurting. Playing in a city we haven't won in this millenium and playing on teh tail end of a tough road trip. With three new key players feeling their new team out and vice versa. The sky is not falling. Some people just wish the Chicken Littles would tone down the doomsday talk. You can talk about how it's frustrating that our shots aren't falling, that our guard defense is paper thin, that some players just aren't getting the job done, but leave the end of the world tone out of it.
I, for one, am not b****in. I like to analyze the play of the team and formulate my own reasons as to why they should be doin better. I've never suggested any trades or any firings. With that said, I agree with you. There are a handful (sometimes more) of people overreacting. But hey, you love your team and want them to do well. People handle it different ways.
I actually agree with you. I believe they need more time and I think that it starts to grate when people wail and gnash their teeth. The problem I have is the last sentence that basically takes a shot at certain memebers as being "fair weather fans." Sure, you can argue all day long that people should be more optimisitc. But telling people who have a more negative out look to shut up or to accuse them of somehow being disingenuous is pretty immature.
Wow so me not having a high post count makes my opinion null? I've been watching the Rockets religously since i was old enough to understand the game, 91 season if you must know. So dont give me crap about not having put time into the team.
That's a good point. I'm such an eternal optimist with all my teams (well, maybe not the Texans ) that this sky is falling mentality this early in the season is so irritating. I should remember that fans handle losses in different ways.
I never said it invalidated your opinion. All I said is you shouldn't just start calling other members "fair weather fans" and impugn their loyalty because they have a different outlook on the team. If you can't understand how telling people to 'stop criticizing this team or go the hell away' doesn't come across as a little bit boorish then I don't know what more I can say...
I can't help the way you take that, but I certainly don't mean to imply that the Chicken Littles were fairweather fans. How is pointing out that the season isn't over and hope is not all lost after eight freaking games immature?
But Bullard4Life is right, we come here to blow gaskets and this is the appropriate place to do it. I've had too many numerous posts to remember that I regret, but many here misinterpret criticism within the "Fire JVG", "Yao sucks", "CD sucks" et al. I very much expected a very poor November not taking into account T-Mac's injury. I thought JVG could do a better job of dealing with the rough spots, and I won't really start judging him until after Christmas. On some level, I do hate the guy when he opens his mouth, but I very much love his passion. I also believe his defensive system is proving to be absurd with Yao on the team, and Deke has looked slower too, and our interior defense right now is just ridiculous and it's not exclusively because of the guards. Offensively, someone needs to tell Yao to pass it back out occassionally and tell others to give him the ball back immediately if he gets better position. But it doesn't happen. Maybe new players need 3 months of JVG screaming at them before they somewhat ignore him. It could be. And I could live with that. I think.
If you people think criticizing makes you a better fan... go and tell the Rockets that.. the point is.. if you saw DA, David Wesley, or Rafer in person, the ones of you that are criticizing would be the first ones to kiss their backsides. That is what a fair weathered fan is. Criticizing is usually relegated to those that don't know jack about basketball but profess that they do. I see it countless times on this board. One guy criticizes and then others jump on the bandwagon and start saying the same thing, except in their own words to make it seem like their basketball critique was original. This board is original, however, the posters on this board that criticize are all one in the same. Excellent post Boomer.
