If you are going to buy one, buy the $400 package. You get a wireless controller, the live headset, a remote control and the hard drive ($100 by itself). You need the hard drive to have "backwards compatibility" for your old Xbox games and to rip CDs or download content, so it is well worth the extra 100 bucks. If you want to know if it is truly worth the price, head up to CompUSA, Best Buy, Wal-Mart or Target... they have the demo boxes already set up to play. In my opinion, it is easily worth it. The new Xbox Live content and ideas are simply amazing. I am a multiplayer/online game addict, so I love the entire concept. I'd much rather play someone else then a 1 player game any day of the week.
Going to post this right now, although I'm not 100% if it will be ready for launch or how quick it will stay in stock: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4196273
They want $400 for 1 or 2 day shipping? OMFG!!!!!! If you do regular shipping, then it is $12.95 but you may not get it until as late as 11/30/05. Screw that.
Whatever you do...DO NOT order from Wal-mart online. I just placed an order with regular shipping at $12.95. I called up asking how they could charge $400.00 for 1 day or 2/3 day shipping. She then said their online website is in error and that they have been out of stock for a while even though their website says "In Stock" and will arrive between 11/23/05 - 11/30/05 for regular shipping. But, the systems will be available in-store on the 22nd. So, I canceled the order because it may not ship until much later than what their site says. That was a complete waste of time. Thanks, RC Cola. I knew it had to be too good to be true. In other words, Wal-Mart sucks donkey balls.
Again, I'm not sure what's going on with the site. I was aware that they were selling them before and sold out, but then this thing popped up today. Strangely enough, someone on another board called Wal-Mart about this too, except the Wal-Mart rep said it was legit (IOW, it would be there by the 30th). Not sure if it matters, but a bunch of people have gotten confirmation emails as well. On the other hand, the site says it is still in stock, which is a bit surprising, if it is legit. If nothing else, this might be a backup plan to use since I guess you could cancel it if it turns out to be an error; I don't think Wal-Mart charges a card until they actually ship the item. Just something to check out if the CC deal doesn't work out later I guess. However, I still don't mind saying that Wal-Mart sucks donkey balls.
Basically when you call or talk to any rep at stores they seem to pull numbers out of their butts? I've talked to different people at Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, Sam's, CompUSA and have gotten different answers everytime I call.
I dunno what to believe. I think I'm just going to wait. I'm still trying to find the strength to play my current xbox let alone a next-gen xbox. LOL. There's nothing worse than a support staff where, depending on who you talk to, you get a completely different story. At least they should be able to give the same BS answers. The lady I was talking to may have very well been talking about a few weeks ago. She kept saying it was a bug and they have been sold out for a long time. But, she also said it should have been fixed and then I told her well I just placed my order a few minutes ago. I think she was just clueless. Also, a confirmation e-mail only confirms your order was received. If it is a shipping confirmation, then obviously that changes things.
Yeah, you have to take just about anything an employee of a retail store tells you with a grain of salt. I know not all of them have IQs under 100, but the vast majority seem to... the best is when you walk buy a tech guy at Best Buy or something making complete BS up trying to sell a computer to a completely clueless consumer.
Yeah, different answers from Wal-Mart reps don't help. I just checked out the CAG forums and some of their posters have called and gotten confirmations on this being legit as well. One of them even gave an explanation for the $400 shipping, saying it was a bug that they have to fix and that they won't let you select it, or something like that. Supposedly, some people from the IGN boards said their orders are already shipping. If you're curious, here's the threads I'm talking about: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74509&page=1&pp=20 (might need to register, don't remember) http://www.ga-forum.com/showthread.php?t=71923&page=1&pp=50 I just see it as something to try if you REALLY want one since I don't think there's really any harm in doing so.
Question, when you purchased it from wal-mart.com did you get charged tax? I imagine you would since they have stores everywhere, but when I got to teh shipping select screen it didn't include tax. If it doesn't include tax then next day shipping wouldn't be all that bad.
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/prod...duct_id=4196273 http://www.walmart.com/catalog/prod...duct_id=4103879 Both links lead to the walmart.com site but they are two different product id numbers. lol.
WELLLLLL..... I ordered it and got an order # with an estimated arrival date between the 23rd and the 30th. I then read the rest of the thread and saw the troubles others have been having concerning the actual availability, delivery date, etc. So, I turned around and called customer service to confirm the date. Mind you, no more than 4 or 5 minutes had passed. The rep seemed to be fairly good (i.e. not a total moron) and she confirmed the date. When I mentioned the troubles others had been having, she rechecked it and said, "Well, it's sold out now, but it looks like you were one of the lucky ones." Now I'm not sure if she really knows that it will ship on the date, or if it's telling everyone that it'll ship on time then just shipping when it has it. Since the website still has it listed as "in stock" I'm very very concerned.
FWIW, I do believe Wal-Mart probably has like 3-4 different online orders for the 360 (one a bundle, another one a couple of days ago for the system, and now this one as well as one for the core pack). Could be a bit confusing for the average Wal-Mart rep since at least two of these have sold out AFAIK, assuming the last two are legit. Just want to make it clear that I'm not suggesting that anyone rely on this. If I was wanting one, I'd probably do the Wal-Mart thing, but then follow that up by trying to get one during the CC online offer later on today. I'd be much more comfortable with ordering one during that time. Probably common sense, but I just don't want anyone making this order and missing out on the CC deal later on.
Yeah I'm debating doing the CC preorder too just in case. I'm just paranoid that somehow I'm going to end up with 2 separate 360s shipping and me getting billed twice. The ol' bank account isn't healthy enough for that. I'm always imagining the worst case scenario, aren't I? BTW the Wal-Mart 360 pages are down again. Maybe I was one of the lucky ones for once.
http://www.ebay.com/ I suppose that could happen, but hopefully you would find out some time soon whether or not at least one of them went through. And then you could just cancel the other one. Easy for me to say since it isn't my money, but I'm just trying to come up with a way that gives you guys the best chance of getting one. BTW, the following link is still working for me: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4196273 Although Svpernaut's links didn't.
Yeah I know, just my natural pessimism showing through. You know what though? I refuse to be Gates' lackey! I refuse to be a slave to the system! I've taken my shot, time to see what happens. I'm done worrying about trying to find it. No Circuit City, no last minute orders, nothing else. I'm done. Yeah, sure. I'll be back in 10 minutes worrying about if I can get one of CC's package deals.
Hope its not too much to ask, but to whom ever is lucky enough to find the link on circuitcity, please cut and paste it on here for the rest of us as soon as you get in. I will be doing the same.
I recommend just going to the 360 section of CC and refreshing until it comes up. Chances are the word's gotten out and the site will be flooded when the sale goes up. The 360 site is here .
Maybe I cancelled my Wal-Mart order too soon. At this point, I don't care. Knowing my dumb ass, I'll probably end up ordering one at CC even though I don't really care if I get one. I don't mind getting PGR: 3 in a bundle but Need for Speed is a waste. Why would anyone want two racing games in a bundle?
