We'll see if it stays the same way. We're only a few weeks into the season, and James doesn't have to pass the ball to 2 or 3 big time scorers.

Yeah, 2 or 3 weeks into the season. No one is showing respect because we don't care, we're concerned about the Rockets not Mike James.

Yep. was just putting forth the stats uptil now. in all honestly, i'm still inclined to think Alston will finally get his groove going. be it next week, or the playoffs. i think he is a better fit for the rox, whilst James is a better fit for a inferiore team in need of a scorer.

Nice D Iverson. That's why Iverson is overrated in my mind. He lurks in the bushes to surprise you with some steals, but other than taht he doesn't play a lick of on the ball defense. He and Mike James will let you get in the lane all night long. TJ Ford abused AI a few days ago and made him look really bad

I have to disagree with you there. He's quick, but is too small to be an effective defender. Players can just shoot right over him. Getting a lot of steals tends to mean you gamble a lot on defense.

There's a reason why NBA players all say that Cliff Robinson and Bruce Bowen are terrific on-the-ball defenders despite never having the defense statistics to show for it (steals/blocks).

For years, everybody complained we need a "true" point guard. That is EXACTLY why we traded MJames away.

Everybody also complained Yao didn't take enough shots. So how is Yao going to take more shots if MJames was our starting point guard with a mentality that nets him 38 points?

He has a career game and now we want him back? OK. ;)

I think it is too early to tell much from stats, but....I'll use what I have. The opposing team scores 6.9 more points than the Rockets over a 48 minute period when Alston is in the game, and the Raptors get outscored by 6.1 points per 48 minutes with James on the court. Neither is very good production, but the san-Alston Rockets outscore opponents by 8 points using this basis while the sans-James Raptors get outscored by nearly 22.

From this type of statistical analysis, the 0-8 record vs the 3-4 record shouldn't equate to "Alston is better than James" because the Rockets are much better than the Raptors. More importantly, neither the Rockets or Raptors have won when TMac didn't play for them. I think Dawson is the one that said the reason the Rockets made the trade was because of Sura's injury. From this I gather that the Rockets believe Alston will be more important with Yao and TMac on the court than James, but the Rockets would prefer to have James on the court when those two are on the bench.

I don't see any reason to hate on James or Alston except when the Rockets play the Raptors. They are different players and are used differently.

Lets play a game...see how many consecutive posts can be misinterpreted about AI's defense. I'll go next.

NO WAY! Whoever thinks AI is quick is obviously a dufus! His defense is so good because he's such a smart player that can compensates for his lack of speed with good positioning just like Ryan Bowan.

Iverson reads the play real good on defense. his defensive awarness is good. he might not be a great man-to-man defender, but he is pretty good. he has a pretty good feel on defense.

Being that we need shooters more than we need ball distributors, that Mike James/ Rafer Alston trade is starting to look crappy. I believe Rafer has yet to dish out more than 7 assists. The season is young, and we should not over-react, but we need to see more production out of our new PG if we are going to be able to rationalize giving up a solid scorer like James.

    Pick it up Rafer.

Maybe MJ could have helped us out during the time T-mac was out but I think he would have kept shooting a ton once T-mac came back.

As for the trade, let's wait until the end of the year to make a fair assesment of which team made out better.

Personally, I think both sides will be pleased in the end. MJ will get a fat contract and Alston will be a serious contributor on a contender who make a serious run in the playoffs.

Both sides can win if you ask me, however it's pointless to bring up MJ stats everytime he has a good nite because it has no bearing on the Roxs anymore, just my 2 cents.

It's hard to get assists when all the shooters are hitting 25% from the field.

Scott Padgett had 13 points and 9 rebounds for the Nets Tuesday, and we let him go for nothing! Way to go, CD!

Uh.. he's about as reliable as Doc Rocket. He works behind the scenes in the organization, so I believe this 100%. Why do you care? It doesn't make T-mac look bad to me, makes him sound like he has that killer instinct and wants the ball.

James is a good guy....good for him. But he's not a point guard, Alston is. If you gave Barry the ball on a hot day he too could score 38 points, given he played 30 some minutes.
