I agree. He'll get better as the season progresses, and is contributing. Sure, he's missed ALOT of shots in the first few games, but so did everyone else without T-MAC's presence on the court.
I will admit I havent been able to watch every game, but I have seen at least half of them. However, He cant just stop playing because he isnt hitting everything. I didnt see that forced anything up, he may have missed, but they were in flow of the offense. Not a steve francis drive it in on city of New York
Then let's see the first thing you included to discuss: Do you really expect a reasonable discussion to follow? I think everyone was quite adept at assessing your original post to be a case of just some more venting and complaining.
Defense... defense... defense... Wesley is our best defender.. period. Just becasue Wesley is struggling shooting wise does not mean he can not contribute other ways on the court. He is important to this team. Points mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. Thats why I support trading Mike James for Rafer. It's all bout chemistry and defense. Both Wesly and Rafer will find it. Even though Wesley is short, he provides good on the ball defense that our other gaurds (including Head) don't provide... No wonder Yao gets into foul trouble so much.. Dribble penetration!!!
My question is would Wesley be criticized as much if Luther Head didnt seem to be progressing as well as he is?
When he shoots I hold my breath (but that goes for just about all the Rocket players right now), and he when he made the three I gasped. I think he was shocked, he was smiling as ran back down the court. I never, never expected the Rockets to struggle this badly. Wesley is approaching the end of his career, and he may be very close. I think he is getting too many minutes. Everyone talks about his great defense, but I keep seeing players blow past him like he is standing still, which he is.
I did not like the trade for Wesley in the beginning-I thought DW was too old and made more money than Jim Jackson. I will not dog the guy anymore. He did contribute well last season. He used to be a Rocket Killer when playing for Charlotte-bet we had no one to guard him. At 35 - folowing knee surgery - Wes gets beaten by all but the slowest guards. I have attended every home game and watched 2 games on television. Wesley's task is usually to guard best athlete on the floor- opposing shooting guard. I feel for him , but the defender we had last yeasr is less effective now. I realize we area stuck with his contract- no one would trade for him now. We make the best of it.
Wesley tends to start slow, and then progress. Similar to Lance Berkman with the Astros. He starts out EVERY YEAR poorly, then picks it up a few weeks into the season. Now is about the equivalent to a "few weeks into the season" for baseball, so I expect Wesley to pick up the pace soon. By the way, check out the stats of everyone not named Yao or TMac. They are pretty pathetic, not just Wesley
Wesley is our best one on one guard defender, and fits into our system well, so he's going to play. His shot is slowly coming along, and he's always been fairly streaky so I don't expect the shot to be there every night...but he's not in there only to shoot. Those of you that want Head to see more time, I'm afraid he's going to have to outplay DA (which he has) or Alston to get it. Once Sura gets back, it's really going to be tight.
I find it hilarious that with your supposed "level of basketball knowledge"...you fail to see what many others who I know for a fact are more astute observers of the game have seen. His defense and leadership on the court are far from overrated...the fact that you cant see it says more to your abilities to scout a team than to actual facts about the guy you are whining about. the posters that are making fun of you have every right to do so...your opinion is based off of faulty observations from your side....and we reserve the right to make fun of people who think so highly of themselves when it is obvious they havent a clue.
Wesley will be fine. So, he got off to a slow start. He's coming around. It's way to early to be pointing fingers at Wesley as someone who "doesn't contribute anything". As others have stated, that simply isn't true. Sure, he's heaved some bricks in the early going. But, who hasn't? His intensity is there. He will be fine. I think it would be a big mistake to let him go or put him at the end of the bench. I love David Wesley. He came in and did well for us last season. He will do well for us this season.
For those of you that do not incessantly whine about the dumbest things. I am not speaking to you. For the rest of you that whine about absolutely nothing ie. this thread, you need to at least trade in your thongs that you wear for some whitey tighties. Its absolutely painful to see how many girly-men are on this board posting in ways that would make Paris Hilton seem manly. I am totally cool if you don't know anything about basketball, but is it necessary to whine? Wesley came off KNEE SURGERY. Newsflash, these surgeries TAKE TIME to work through. If you haven't had knee surgery before, you have no clue what you're talking about. Jeff Van Gundy knows what he is doing. If it weren't the case, one of you whiners might actually have a chance at being an NBA coach. As it is, you're probably not even a little league coach. Chill out
you know who could contribute to this thread, and to the Rockets?...BOKI!!!...oh wait, he went to N.O. in the Wesley trade...rats!!
RAID, I've been watching Rockets basketball for nearly 25 years now. I never get too worried about anything this early in the season. Wesley had a fairly good game last night and while his shooting touch has been MIA so far, you could say the samething about the entire back court. Wesley went through the same thing when he was traded to us last year, as the season wore on his shot started to fall, hence, I don't think he should be traded because he's had a group of bad games at the start of the season, if these first 7 game were our measuring stick then most of our team would be on the chopping block but last I checked there are still 75 games to go
I would say concerns about a 35 year old player just coming off knee surgery were well founded, especially if that player was playing as poorly as Wesley is. JVG has pulled him from the starting line-up; does that mean anything to you? It is my understanding that discussions about player performances are totally legitimate for this board. If there were no such discussions, the board would likely cease to exist. I try to avoid making fun of other posters. I try to state my views and let others state theirs. I may not always agree, but I respect other posters' opinions.
solid, Wesley was pulled from the starting lineup, because we have a better option in D.A. Im a huge Wesley guy and I saw no problem with that (and I imagine others don't either), as at this stage in David's career, he is probably better suited for the backup 1/2 role. That being said, hes far from washed up IMO. His shooting not withstanding, hes doing other things well that warrant the time he is being given on the court.
