I had a disagreement with a friend today about a few rules and stats questions:

1 - On a dead ball situation, can the inbounder get an assist?

crap, accidental post, ok so continuing

for example, when taking it out after a foul, and you're under your own basket, and you simply toss it to the wing for a 3pt shot, do you recieve an assist for that?
    OR
In a similar situation you are doing more of the "creating" by faking one way, and hitting a cutter for a layup, do you recieve credit for an assist
    OR
When taking the ball out after the opposing team makes it, if you throw a long lead pass, do you get an assist for the subsequent shot?

    2. If you hit a cutter for a shot which would normally be an assist and a layup, but he gets fouled and misses, if he makes a free throw (or both) does the passer recieve an assist?

All of these are based on NBA rules

You can get an assist by passing it from out of bounds.

...and no, you don't get an assist if your teammate gets fouled and makes both foul shots...I always thought a player should get an assist in that situation, though...
