Hey Jamcracker, thanks for the link to the past posts. Interesting reading.

Let me weigh in on the fatherhood thing.

THERE IS NEVER ANY EXCUSE FOR BEING A LOUSY FATHER.

The adult has a choice. The child does not. The adult must choose to be a good father, and make that his first priority.

If a man had a lousy father, or no father, that is all the more reason to turn it around for his child.

My dad had his good points and his deficiencies. He died 30 years ago, well before my own children were born. I adopted his good traits, and used his not so good traits as an example of how not to be.

John Lennon made excuses for himself. I do not excuse him, and neither will his son, Julian.

Job one in life is being a good parent to the children you bring into this world. No excuses.

Jesus, I had absolutely nothing to do with that.

It's easy to see why the number of persons dying from lightning is increasing.

Is it possible that all religions have enough in common that we could look back on nearly any one of them and say, "hey..they stole from those guys!!"??? Concepts like life after death, morality, deities who conquer death/evil, light over darkness, royal imagery, etc etc etc. The problem is that kind of analysis doesn't necessarily bring us any closer to what is true or not. Again...it ultimately comes down to faith.

The less you think about it, the more you probably know.

Thats one way of looking at it.

I have studied for years on the historical side of Jesus, chistianity, etc, and I can tell you this stuff is bogus.

Mark was a living person that we can trace to other stories in the bible. Actually if you destoyed every New Testement in the world, we could replicate it historicly with ease.

Jesus was a Jew, from the fertile cresent area, so most likely he was dark skinned with dark hair and eyes.

After reading the abstract, I have to wonder if the author actually read the Gospel he's talking about. The misrepresentations are myriad. John the Baptist was in competition with Jesus?

    Here's something to ponder...

Both the history of Julius Ceasar, and the History of Jesus happened, literally, milleniums ago.

Why are some people so willing to discount Jesus as "a good story", and accept the history of Ceasar as fact?

After all, Jesus still has quite a few more followers than Ceasar. Wouldn't that make him the more "credible" historical figure?

    Just curious.

(After all, we have footage of both the Holocaust, and Man on the Moon, and yet, people still try to debunk these events... which just happened in the past fifty years)

Why, in human nature, must we have proof to believe? (BTW, I'm as guilty as anyone.)

because it's a lot easier to believe in a general conquering nations than it is to believe in virgin births, transubstantiation and resurrections.

That would make a great bumper sticker. It summarizes every conservative argument in eleven words.
