I pay 180 a month for 7mb down 512up high speed internet, digital cable with DVR, all premium channels and digital phone thru time warner. They usually have a deal that you can get for 6 months that you can get all that for 99 a month, you get charged more then send in some mail in rebate. In the Willowbrook area the internet speeds are good and the quality on even KNWS is good.

When i worked at time warner they were talking about being able to monitor the taps that everyone is plugged into, and record what the signal strengths are running when every "legal" person is connected, if that went too much lower than the recorded lvl they would send out a truck to see if anyone was stealing. Although basic cable doesnt really lower the connection too bad unless you are at the end of a network.

Back when i worked there 90% of the people that got caught stealing cable were told on by neighbors because their signal strength went down.

On TW, you pay another $7 a month to upgrade to the DVR/TIVO box. That's it.

On satellite, you have to own whatever equipment is involved. Most of the operators have all sorts of deals to get you equipment for free. However, once you talk to them it turns out that you can get a HD box or two for free, or a DVR box for free, but the one that is an HD and DVR box is the newest one and it's pretty expensive. At least $200, but I think it was more.

I just talked to a satellite using co-worker and he said he got his DVR box for free, but he had to pay $50 for shipping. How is that free again?

Then there's the local channel HD feeds. If I wanted them, the guy said I needed to get them OTA (over the air). So now I need to set up an antenna?

The initial deal they offer is really cheap, but it's just an apology for the unholy PITA that getting satellite set up is. Once they get to full price after 3 or 6 months, there is virtually no difference in pricing - not if you want HD.
One of the satellite companies offers VOOM, but you need to get another dish to get it.

For cable, you have a cable. This cable supplies internet, HBO, digital cable, HD local channels - basically everything you need. I even have a splitter and send the cable feed into my computer so I can record basic cable on my PC.

I am hoping I can get Dish. Because TVMax is just terrible. I can't even get the league pass with them, the picture quality is horrible and when asked about HD, they literally laughed.

It's not even at the pole. There is like a small green hub in your backyard. Well actually I'm lucky and it's in my backyard. My neighbors unfortunately don't have access to their connection because it's in my backyard. I used to have RR + cable but have canceled the cable and switched to DirectTV. I still have the analog connection though as they didn't put the filter on but I also have Direct TV as well

FSN is on the Total Choice package for $41.99 /month. You will be able to see the games on Fox sports southwest if you live in the Houston area.

I had a problem with TW where all my analog stations flickered. They replaced the box and all the cabling. Same results. I switched to VOOM and didn't get flickering, but the antenna for the local stations did not pick them all up. They could not fix it, so I called TW back and they came out with the DVR (August 2004). They gave me all sorts of discounts to come back and I haven't seen the same problem I had with the older receiver.

TW is pricy, but I'm not giving it up.

I'm ready to switch, because my monthly TW bill has gone up $22 in three years.

Did you get a special deal or what? Also, does Dishnetwork charge differently in different areas?
