for more receivers, Just curious, what's the difference between getting both HDTV and DVR on satellite and TimeWarner?
Just do this: Call Timewarner and get RR and not cable ... once they install RR and leave go to the back and take off the splitter and u'll have both (That's how me and my buddies does it for 5yrs now)
ditto on TVmax.. they suck. Stuck with them because my apartment is contracted to them. My patio is facing the wrong direction for directv
The cable/rr connection goes to the same lines in the back .... There's a filter/splitter in ur back yard that can be remove and u'll get both. Some people pay $50 to do it but is real easy You can cancel your cable and they will come and put a filter/splitter on and wait 2 days and then remove it.
I cancelled my cable yesterday. "Watching television is like taking black spray paint to your third eye." -Bill Hicks
A-Train: For years I didn't even pay for Cable, just a Cable modem with Earthlink, but for some reason, I got Extended Analog cable for free. When I moved recently, they finally filtered out my video. So I got just basic cable for $12- my hunch was that they could either filter out all video or nothin' (becuase I have a cable modem and they need to uncap certain things), and I was right. I have the full analog lineup (1-70+) for $12 a month, plus my Earthlink Cable Modem charges. It's a crapshot, but it's definately worth it.
Yeah. See, I've been known to do some pirating, too, but I've always said that I'm not gonna mess with anything at the pole. It's easy for the cable company to bust people doing that.
Time Warner has been showing ads that they are gonna start checking for piracy this month. I've heard ads on the radio and started to see some commercials about this recently. Do you think they are going to act on this or just using it as a scare tatic?
I'm not sure how they are going to trace piracy. I usually talk to whatever cable monkey comes out, and they always complain about what a mess the cable taps are- no labels, splitters everywhere because the tap isn't enough to meet demand in the area. Not to mention that the local TWC offices that run things aren't up to snuff, technicly. The logical thing for them to do in light of this is to put some sort of 'lock' on the line at the tap and label it. I'm with droxford on climbing the pole to take the trap/filter off. Just isn't worth it.
OK, so I don't need cable to use a cable modem? One of the reasons I'm hesitant to get a satellite dish is that I was under the impression I had to have cable to use a cable modem, and DSL isn't offered where I live...
So you've decided to steal cable. Myth: Cable piracy is wrong. Fact: Cable companies are big faceless corporations, which makes it okay.
Fact 2: It's especially okay if you like to spend time in federal prison cells with guys named "Luther." Y'all realize that your IP is trackable right?
Everything is expensive nowadays...Concast sucks...I pay close to $100/mo and that's with the discount...I can't wait until I can get DirecTv, once their HD receivers go down in price...
But what do you guys mean by "CLIMBING POLES?" it doesnt work like that ... you just open a box in ur back yard or some people the wire is along ur back wall of ur house .... simply find it ... unscrew it and done. I have gone to my friend's apt complex and open the box and remove it..... real easy. I know about 35 people that had done it for 5+ years. Big company like Time Warner over charging us ... just "borrowing" alil that's all. If they come over and find out just play dumb and act like they never put the splitter on ... nuthign they can do... happen to 1 of my friends before.
Is like people buying those new RECIEVER $200+ on ebay and reprograming it to get ALL THE CHANNELS for DIRECT TV.
Looks like we are getting Dish Network. I've been trying to convince my roomates to drop Cocks Cable (cox).
