Rarely does a topic light a fire enough to start a thread, but... What in hell is ESPN thinking? This is hands down the most moronic, yet unintentionally funny, thing I've ever seen on broadcast television. The reporters springing from their chair eagerly to get the "GM's" attention, the light bulbs flashing, the orchestrated media frenzy...it was like a car crash I could look away from even though every fiber of my being knew that I wasting precious moments of my life I'd never get back. I know that's a bold statement, and I know we're only talking sports, but how can they still even give the slightest impression that SportsCenter is a "news" program. Had it been a skit on the Daily Show it would have been genius, but unfortunately for all of us watching, it was plain that this circus was missing the irony it so sorely needed to save what little integrity that ESPN was hopelessly clinging to. Alright...that had to be said...carry on.
Unfortunately ESPN has become more about style than substance. Hell what am I saying its almost always been that way. More now that ever its just plain ridiculous. The only ESPN channels worth watching are ESPNews and Classic, and if there was an ESPN 8 "The Ocho" it would probably be head and shoulders above Sportscenter.
I thought the point was to make fun of the Live episode of the West Wing with the Presidential debate. I didn't see either of them
I Agree.. such classics as 'Tilt,' ESPN Hollywood, and 'Junction Boys' have made me think they've lost their minds.
Wow!! It's on right now. A mock presconference about the Yankees GM and their offseason moves. Are they so desperate to talk about the Yankees that they are making up press conference's about them. Pathetic.
I gues they showed that the first time on Sunday. I thought it was r****ded then and if they are showing it AGAIN, ESPN has completely lost their minds. First of all, why create fake news and why focus on the Red Sox so f'n much. ESPNNews is where it is at.
what i very briefly saw, once hands down one of the worst things i've ever witnessed in my entire life. ESPN is approaching MTV status in the demise of our society. god i hate the yankees even more now. WHAT THE HELL IS ESPN DOING?!?!?!?
Bingo. Only time I watch SC anymore is if something big just happened. SC is decent in the afternoons, but the morning show is just stuffed full of crap. Kill the top ten plays (which now don't even have to be plays), kill those sappy lifetime segments from Sunday night/Mon morning, just keep it simple and focused on the highlights and news. Evan
I would watch ESPN 8 the ocho if the crazy stuff like dodgeball, trampoline basketball, and what not was on it. I'd be there at like 2 am in the mourning.
Ok, I saw part of the Yankees one this morning and it seems they are doing the Cubs next. There's no way they are running through the entire MLB though. Very stupid, if you haven't seen it, it's just a regular analysis of what they should do for the offseason, but delivered as a press conf. I thought it was a joke before I saw it for myself.
I heard Steve Phillips talking about it last week. Apparantly (I haven't seen any of these) , he wanted to do a segement where he pretended to be the GM of a few teams, and went through a press conference announcing moves they had made. What the PC's are supposed to be, are his opinions of what each of the spotlighted teams should do in the offseason. It isn't supposed to be made up news stories , but he wanted to present his opinions in an unorthodoxed way. By the way the teams he is supposed to do are, Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers, Astros, White Sox.
