...and this is for plain ole' analog cable! So, can I get Rockets games on DirecTV? I got a flyer from them that looked like a pretty good deal. Also, I've heard of people getting free cable for threatening to get satellite. Has anybody done this? If I can get free cable for a couple of months before switching, that would be even better...
Not sure about the free cable thing. But I am looking at getting Dish Network. I have a HDTV and probably the worst cable company in the history of man in TVMAX. I am paying close to 50 bucks for Digital, no HD option, no DVR, no NBA League Pass, crappy image quality. TVMAX sucks. Dish Network gives the HD receiver for free while Directv charges about 289 for.
Well, I just have a regular 27 inch TV, so HD is the last thing I'm worried about...a free DVR wouldn't suck, though...
DirecTV here... 2 Tivos and one regular receiver with all the channels and all the movie channels minus the PPV/Leaguepass stuff for under $80.00 a month after tax.. Every year I call them up and say I am going to go back to cable and they give me half off for six months so I get about 25 a month off for the year..
I just spoke to 2 Brians from SBC's promotion, and they're giving out free DVR and 1 room installation for Dish for 38.99 if you get some sort of combo (I already have their DSL and their Phone service). I will also consider their Cellular service switch over to Cingular... and will save me a bunch. I am doing it to watch my ROCKETS, which I can't do with my regular local over-the-air HDTV channels (no FSW, no TNT). I will NOT get the HD convertor upgrade... 9.99/mo for the HDTV receiver is an outrage... I don't even need that... A-train, look these dudes up if you already have some of their services, or switch over for discounts.
Yeah! DO IT. DO IT. jk. I thought I'd mention that because I called once and spoke to a Brian, my cell signal got distorted, then I called again and I had ANOTHER Brian answer. I says: "Are you the same Brian I spoke to earlier?" He says: "Nope, but I can still help you, sir." Great customer service on the phone. I just called to get explanations of combos and services, and everything was explained to the nitty gritty. I forgot to mention that there is a one-time 49.99 charge to your credit card for installation of Dish. Too bad SBC doesn't do any cable. I would prefer cable... rains and thunders so damn much in KATY...
Up here we have Comcast and I always use Dish and DSL to negotiate. I have digital cable with HDTV + cable modem for $78 (all tax included - which is always a large part of the bill).
Watch out for SBC, those baistards are charging me 65$ a month just to have the internet. They are the only company we are allowed to use in my aprtment complex and they make us get a land line to get DSL!
I accidentally dropped my remote into a vat of koolaid, I called up comcast, and get this, I have to go pick up a new controller. They won't send it to me. I've never heard of that. This is ridiculous.
Thunderstorms, sunnydays, bird crap, crappy picture. If it wasn't for the price and the DVR's I would go back to cable.
Wow, are you serious? I've had DirecTV for the last 4 years and my picture goes out on average of about twice a year, and for no more than 5 minutes. It's been well over a year since I've had any type of signal interruption. You must have Dish Network.
I don’t blame them, they can’t pick up and go to a subscribers house for minor stuff. I guess they could put it in the mail. But TimeWarner wants the old equipment back. I understand where you’re coming from but I understand comcast’s position. I was almost forced to get DirectTV because where I live we don’t get TimeWarner and instead some ole bootleg service called “TVMax”. I hate that crap. Finally broke down. Satellite Service is actually not that expensive since they don’t make you buy receivers anymore. That’s a pretty good deal. We also get 4 receivers for the price of one. TimeWarner still only gives you one receiver I believe with digital. I liked TimeWarner and if it was available where I live I’d probably still get it. They’re digital service is almost on par with DirectTV. Its funny, my wife’s cousin does installation for TimeWarner and he and I were having a discussion on the differences in the services. I said, “the only difference I see is” and before I could finish he says “the program guide”. And that’s exactly what I was going to say. That may sound like nitpicking, but believe me, if you’ve had both, you know what I’m talking about. It makes the service a lot better. Its faster, carries more info, and just has more function. My wife’s cousin did tell me that TimeWarner offers a package with an equivalent program guide to satellite but I don’t know.
My dog has chewed up five remotes and Time Warner has simply given us new ones when we walked into the store. No questions asked, no charge, no nothin'.
Here in the midwest, I get two drop-outs per year. They usually last about a half-hour. One occurs during the first thunderstorm of the year in spring, the other during the first snowstorm in fall. It doesn't make any scientific sense, but it's as if the dish itself gets "used" to the inclement weather, and never drops out oafter that. Nothing but good things to say about Direct TV, and it's been six years now.
Ironically, I'd like to have TVMax instead of Time Warner. Time Warner doesn't offer Japan TV, and for some reason TV Max does. I could get it on dish, but I'd have to get an extra dish for it. If you want HDTV and DVR, Satellite companies bend you over. The free boxes they give you can have either HD or DVR, not both.
I would move to cable if they would sell the digital phone/cable/cable internet package out in Katy, until they do I'll stay with my DirecTv and DSL I have.. My only grip about cable is TIVO owns whatever the hell TW likes to call their DVR, that thing is HORRIBLE... and ADs all over the damn GUI
