Just a reminder to everyone out there to get off your asses and go VOTE today! People b**** and moan all day long about how the sytem is messed up, well do something about it! Regardless of where you stand go excercise your right to vote... many a lives have been lost to give you that freedom, so do it!
And for anyone interested in reading up before they go... http://www.lwvhouston.org/VotersGuideNov0005/HarrisEnglish.pdf
Harris County has a interactive database online where you can pull up yourself and see exactly where your polling station is (as well as check your voter registration info) http://www.tax.co.harris.tx.us/voter/voter.asp
I highly recommend reading about the propositions before you go. You won't be able to tell squat about what you want from reading the summary on the ballot.
I heard that people are getting confused with the wording on the prop. 2 vote and that a lot of people are voting the opposite of what they intended. Maybe some gay guy wrote the ballot in order to confuse voters and get gay marriages legalized.
nah, just vote NO to all of them, aint any of them worth it anyways, here is some info on the props http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/2005novconsamend.shtml
no matter if your pro-intolerance or not, you will agree that the wording is seriously messed up "The constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman and prohibiting this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage."
No I don't. I think the wording is perfectly clear (see my post in a previous thread). I strongly believe that there are people who are taking portions of the proposition out of context, splicing pieces together, and labeling it as "confusing" or "poorly worded". Those people are doing so to intentionally sway voters. If you read the entire proposition, it's perfectly clear and understandable.
I don't know if it is "perfectly clear and understandable," but it's clear enough that it should be defeated. For Austin residents, consider voting for the park bonds, with will save thousands of acres from the rampant development going on around our fair city. I don't recall the proposition's number, but the one that gives clear title to farmers and ranchers in East Texas, who have had their land titles, some in the family for generations, put at risk by confusion regarding possible state ownership due to surveying errors of decades standing (brought up by money hungry lawyers! grrrr... ), should be approved, in my opinion. And vote, regardless of how you vote! If you don't vote, then don't complain later! The blood of our ancestors was shed for the privilege... exercise it! Keep D&D Civil.
I can easily see how section 1B can be construed as meaning any marriage in the state of Texas is illegal. I don't think that any judge in Texas would interpret this way, however. Oh, what I wouldn't give to see the comedy "No marriage in Texas!" option become a reality.
I'd vote for that one. Today, I will probably vote NO on all of them. As far as gay marriage goes, I side with our future governor, Kinky Friedman, who says..... "I support gay marriage. I believe gays have each and every right to be as miserable as the rest of us."
Eh, I voted against the bigotry amendment last Friday, since I have to work at the polls today. If you vote in Northcliffe Manor, say hi to the guy in the blue shirt reading the 9/11 commission report
