I know Shaq is a sure HOFer, but how can AM, or GP a sure HOFer? How many good years did they have? 3, or 5? Talking about longivity
I did... like GP and AM, but now I don't know. What they said is stupid, and it does sound like old players/vets speaking out of jealousy. How is it not fun to watch Tracy? Tracy is not just talented, he is a unique talent. You can't compare Tracy's game with anyone else, because of how different it is, and how he could dominate offensively. W/e...
I've been watching nba from the 80's a lot recently...do you know what T-Mac would have done in 1985?? He would have been completely unstoppable, and the best defensive player in the league. Can you imagine Robert Ried guarding T-mac? No way. Do you think those dudes back then would have gotten off a shot? No way.
I think Vince Carter read what was said about his cousin and took it personally. He threw a pretty nasty facial on Zo in tonight's game. You can see it on nba.com. Front page under dunk of the night.
No, I didn't just start following the NBA. I go back a couple of "eras" according to Shaq's calendar. And my statement is no more ignorant than Zo's inflated opinion of his career and where it stacks up. Zo is Elton Brand. There, but for the grace of a ping-pong ball, goes Zo. He owes whatever success he's enjoyed to his teammates, coaches and a severe big-man shortage. What was his competition? Theo Ratliff, Jim McIlvane, Elden Campbell, Will Perdue, Vitaly Potapenko, Michael Doleac, John Amaechi. That would explain the 7 all-star appearances. One conference final appearance against the Bulls, otherwise MJ bounced him in the first round (hardly contending for a championship) and three straight seasons ended by the Knicks (twice in the first and once in the second round). You can hardly say MJ got in his way there. I guess in a couple of years we'll have to endure the likes of Brand, Abdur-rahim, Francis and company talking trash about the next wave of players. Obviously, Zo is envious of the wide-open future that lies in front of Amare and LeBron. It would be unbearable if it wasn't so pitiful. It must be tough to know that your window has closed and you'll be forever on the outside looking in. Was Zo a good player? In all seriousness - yes, of course, but I don't think he should begrudge the adulation that Amare, Lebron and others are receiving now. I'm fairly sure he enjoyed it "back in the day".
How quick we forget...Shaq (4 years in the east), Ewing, Mutombo and Rik Smits all played in the east during the 8 year period prior to Zo's kidney ailment...Hardley scrubs, as the ones you conveniently mentioned Also, Elton Brand has NEVER made the playoffs, let along the conference finals. Just because they lost out to the Knicks several years in very close and tightly contested series' (all went the distance) doesn't mean they weren't contenders. **** happens. I don't think those players are begrudging the young players, they just feel they get too much recognition for not accomplishing anything. Barkley says exactly what Zo and Payton and Shaq said in this article all the time. But because you guys hate Payton and Zo for some reason and he dissed our local boy, you all have your panties in a wad. IF they had said this about Jason Kidd, AI, Kobe and KG, this article would not have even appeared on this site.
"And boom goes the dynamite" That's my point too, they need to STFU until they do more.. They are in the same boat as Tracy is, I guess we should start counting how many teams coat tails these two chuckers have been riding in the past few years.. I hope they understand that when they don’t win it all this year or next it was their fault for chasing a ring.. KARMA is a b****, just ask Malone..
The thing is, IF they get the rings finally...it really isn't going to be seen as they earned it as much. Sure they contribute, but they didnt' earn those rings as *THE* #1 guy on their team...or even the #2 guy. I'll, along with many others, will consider they worked as hard as ZAN TABAK to get their rings...ok, maybe not THAT bad, hahahah. I mean they have to feel like they wouldn't really have earned it as much as if they did in their prime. In that sense, it sucks, but whatever works for them.
LOL.. wOrd... i was just bout to post about that... Zo was good in his time... but zo just got dunked by his cousin... lol.... thats what u get for talking ****
jordan never clinged onto shaq, malone's, kobe's or anyone else's nutsack to get a championship ring...
furthermore if mourning and payton win a ring this year (which they won't even make it out of the east), then they will be remembered respectively (or not) as a person who faked an injury to get traded from 2 teams to play 12 mpg and depend on shaq&wade, and another who similarly already depended on a shaq/kobe team that had won 3/4 championships prior to his arrival but ended up losing and being worse with him... there is no sane person in the nba who would start their franchise with either of these fools over tmac.
They should redo the Trophy Love commercial where Payton is outside the house, throwing pebbles at the window, trying to court the Larry O'Brien championship trophy. And then have T-Mac show up at the window, smile, and then close the blinds. The lights go off and the bed starts to squeak.
I don't agree w/ what Zo said, but the guy had a freakin kidney transplant...this isn't planter fascitis we're talking about here. And I would build a team around Zo in his prime. If I remember correctly the Heat did and were good. Payton though, not so much. Aside from Shaq, all these older vets talkin trash about the current crop's lack of achievement should take a hard look at themselves. Payton, Zo, Barkely have as many rings as AI, Tmac, Lebron, Wade, etc: 0.
I don't think this is really a fair comparison at all. We're talking about Shaq, Zo and Payton. Shaq, has 3 rings and a few MVP trophies and both Zo and GP were perennial All-Stars who both were spoke of as MVP candidates at different points in their career. Not only that, but they both lead teams deep into the playoffs and were both considered top 3-5 at their positions for the bulk of their careers. Steve Francis is the only player you mentioned who is even a perennial All-Star, and he's nowhere near the point guard GP was in his prime. NOWHERE NEAR.
actually what i take from GP mentioning tmac is basically that he considers him the best scorer in the league and therefore is mentioning anybody who is like tmac is just a scorer. however, he obviously needs to watch more game tape and look at the stat sheets at times to get an idea of what tmac really is. just because he is a superb scorer sometimes takes away from other things he excels at on the court. for example, there is not another shooting guard in the league with the court vision tmac possesses. in game winning situations tmac is the player assigned to the toughest scorer on the other team. in the dallas series, he was assigned to the best player on the other team throughout the WHOLE SERIES. i think its worthless to even begin arguing with the glove but if thats how he feels about tmac's game....goodluck against the rockets.
Everyone gets dunked on, especially shot blockers...why don't they show the 5 blocks zo had in that game, that's as embarassing as being dunked on. I recall Zo changing carter's shot and wade blocking it for the win
