Uh, since Coker has taken over and really going back to the end of the Butch Davis era, this outlaw image of Miami that was started by Jimmy Johnson and reached its zenith under Dennis Erickson (a complete ******* by the way) has virtually disappeared. The only news that I can remember being associated with Miami off the field was them signing Willie Williams, who SO FAR has been a model citizen. It is the Vols that are the ones who are really out of control, but you sound like a typical Florida fan - upset because your team has lost its last 5 to Miami (and this is even after ducking the Canes for close to 13 years). Just be thankful that the Gators got extremely LUCKY that D.J. Shockley got hurt or your team wouldn't even be close to getting a whiff of the SEC Championship Game. I'm sorry for hammering you, dude, but the Florida Gators are a team that I absolutely despise - more than Tennessee, Notre Dame, Alabama, and Florida State. Their weasling out of playing Miami every year (until they briefly resumed their series in the 2002 and 2003 seasons) is bad enough but their players love to run their traps even after they get beat. They remind me of the Mexican soccer team and their fans.
Was it a Miami player who took a dump in some girls closet? I remember it was a Florida school but not sure which. Same thing (I think) for the dude that went through a drive through window to attack someone at a fast food place, just can't remember which school or how recently.
That's fine that you despise UF, just don't let your hatred lead you to irrational thoughts. I agree what you've said about Miami being good citizens in recent years (with the exception of signing WW), but like you've said he has been good thus far. Truth is, I would have loved to have him - he's gonna be an absolute beast in the future. I'm not mad about losing to the Canes in recent years. I'd prefer to play them every year for the War Canoe like old times, but Foley is probably just scared of overloading an already tough schedule or he wants to bring in the extra revenue from having a cupcake home game instead every year. I'm not sure that Miami was making a big push to play UF every year with the 12th game either, so it works both ways. The reason I wrote Miami in that list is because of their history of problems and outspoken players. It will take them a little longer to outgrow their stereotype that was created under past teams. College football fans won't be so quick to proclaim Miami as a team full of angels just because they've been good in recent years. The only real problems I have with Miami are all their fair weather fans and the fans that wouldn't have a prayer for the chance to attend UM, but run their mouth with zeal whenever they have a good season - only to disappear when they aren't doing well.
franchise... I'm just glad we've been competitive this year. With our star running back being murdered in the offseason, I really didn't know what to expect. It's been an emotional year, from seeing players sitting at a table collecting money for the Kwane Doster (their murdered teammate) foundation at lunch during the week (like this Wednesday) to playing a big game on Saturday...
manny.. the vols are way out of control... trust me, I tried to keep count of crimes committed by their athletes in the past year.. good thing I'm good at math!
I think the first incident involved FSU and the fast food thing I thought for sure involved Kansas State. And Franchise, I understand the reputation but how long does it take for one school to convince people that they aren't outlaws anymore? In Miami's case, apparently a long time. And believe me, I was a fan when they got hammered by FSU 47-0 in '97. Not fun times at all.
Don't worry, I'm not questioning how much of a fan you are for Miami and I can obviously see that their past reputation bothers you since it realistically doesn't apply anymore. I can empathise how it would be to continuously stand up for UM when your team has been clean off-the-field in recent years. As for how long it will take Miami to get rid of their image: even though it's not fair for UM and I don't agree with it; I think a lot of people hold former players' actions against them. Former UM players in the NFL have come up in a lot of press clippings over the past few years and they've garnered the disdain of many NFL fans for their brashness and outspoken character (ie Shockley, Winslow). It's not fair for UM at all since those players no longer attend Miami, but ignorant fans (or those with an anti-UM bias) will hold it against the University of Miami. Also, FYI: the first incident of a guy defecating in a girl's laundry basket was actually by Najeh Davenport. I believe he was already in the NFL at the time though and was just visiting Miami. (Another incident where people probably hold it against UM when the player is no longer with the University).
The rockets-mavs playoffs last year (especially the out of bounds) Anyone remembers the oakland-NE fumble/ incomplete pass (Im not an oakland fan, in fact I like the Pats) but that was a controversial call.
Me and moestavern19 don't remember that play, david_rocket - mind if you can refresh our memories about it?
fred brocklander's call in 86 on Craig Reynolds at first. he was safe. the drexler ejection in the 95 playoffs vs. phoenix.
brightside.. that's not the TD in question the td in question is in the 3rd quarter.. on a 4th and 1 .. on goal line play where the ball crosses plane.. but knee also goes down.. that is the close one in question...
but even though it is in question... we recognize it's hard to tell on that one.. so thats not the call we are upset about.. its mainly the celebration call at the end of game..
"It's getting out of hand the way officials are throwing flags on anything resembling a celebration after a touchdown. They made an egregious mistake by penalizing Vanderbilt late in the Florida game, and it might have cost the Commodores a chance to go for the win in regulation." Rece Davis http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2215819 see i'm not only one talking about it hehe
this will be the last post for me in a while.. espn says.. oh my goodness.. oh my goodness.. what did he do? that was just awful.. that was just absolutely officiating..
