A friend of mine (and Jeff) has a band (Pull) out in L.A. Last week they were signed to a record deal and will begin touring around the country. Please check out the link below and listen to a few (or all) of their songs and tell me what you think of them. All opinions are welcome. http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/53/pull.html ------------------ When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. I'm listening to it now.. It's free to listen to right. They just ask email address to have it? ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
Yes, its free. ------------------ When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity.- Albert Einstein
THey coming to houston to perform? What i've heard so far sounds pretty good. I'm sure it would sound better in person though. And since they signed a record deal.. they will probably be using top of the line recording equipment etc and make it sound even better.. although it sounds like they are already using good equipment.... But I like the guitar etc.. voice sounds good. I'll pass more along as I listen to the rest.. What do they classify themselves as.. what type of music? And do they write their own music? they sound good though... just curious.. they've been working together a while from what i heard.. how old are the band members? they already sound better than that O-town making of the band people did. .. and then the recording studios etc totally changed how they sound.. with the right marketing etc.. this group sounds like they could be pretty good ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be" [This message has been edited by Rocket Fan (edited June 18, 2001).]
All of the Tracks at this site were recorded at a house they share. It's basically a "Home Recording." All the songs are written by Dale and Gerard. Gerard (guitar player) is the friend I was referring to. He is in his 30's. I don't know the other guys in the band. Dale and Gerard have been doing the L.A. scene for quite awhile. ------------------ When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. Bobbo, Gave a few tracks a listen, not too bad, sound a bit like Counting Crows, not sure may give it a few more listens, liked the boomerang track, overall though could be a tad too "soft-pop" for my liking. smeggy.. boomerang is the one so far that has caught my attention as well This is an 18 year old speaking so my opinions probably differ.. i have one of my friends listening as well.. the first song he liked and thought they sung good. he wasn't sure if the song was catchy enough though. thats' why i was asking the people's age... differnt generations like differnt stuff etc.. some songs are more catchy than others but it sounds pretty good ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
Really nice music. I think they can become a really good group , they have all the tools to become one. ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
Ok, Time to play Geffen... 1. Song 4 (If a professional could change the title of the song I like this one.) 2. Broken (Needs a little change of pace somewhere to work, but has something to it.) 3. Boomerang I can see why this song did well. Almost there, but not quite Top 100) 4. Breathe 5. Flood Let me know how badly I did picking the hits, but my gut liked these. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
They remind me of Vertical Horizon. If you want to hear how wierd and talented Gerard is, check this out... http://www.mp3.com/squidzilla/ He and I have known each other since about 1988. We played together for a couple of years in Houston. He's a great guy and a terrific player. ------------------ Things do not change; we change. - Henry David Thoreau
As a musician(and music major) and member of one of the better local Houston bands I'd have to say . . . I like it. Good musicianship, catchy tunes, good melodies. They're really good. I like them. ------------------ PS - This is what part of the alphabet would look like if there were no Q and R. Six West
Great stuff, Thanks Jeff!!! Psychological Surgery reminded me of Vernon Reid's-"Mistaken Identity" CD ------------------ When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. The alternative / pop band PULL is composed of lead vocalist and rhythm guitar player, Dale Everett and Gerard Garcia, lead guitarist and background vocalist. This collaborative partnership has been writing together for over four years, performing their songs at L.A.'s major clubs including The Roxy, Whiskey-a-Go-Go, Martini Lounge, Key Club and the Viper Room. Their intoxicating live show performances feature both driving, up-tempo songs and powerful ballads. Early efforts by this team landed several of their songs on network televisions hottest shows such as the Young and the Restless and the WB's Jack & Jill. ------------------ When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. BobFinn, here is my constructive criticism from a musicians standpoint: They definitely have pop viability. Im not too crazy about the drum machine (which seems to be popular with bands of the like nowadays). I am going to assume that they didnt have one for the recording. Very catchy hooks, and the harmonies seem tight which is important. The singer could use a little more strength and depth in his voice (sounds a little weak in some songs, but overall not bad). Kind of reminds me of the lead singer from Oleander. The guitarist is creative. However, they might think of adding a lead guitarist to fill the holes, and add a little something more to the band. Cant really hear the bass to well, but he seems to follow the rythym guitarist note for note. This is fine, but a little fill here and there would help. A steady, mechanically sound drummer is essential to help make this band better. Overall I liked their stuff. I think that they have potential to do something good assuming that they can add a better rythym section (bass and drums) We all know that I am sick of hearing that Limp God Stain crap so bring on the good stuff. BTW, What Label picked them up BobFinn?? ------------------ "We make more, but we spend more." Patrick Ewing
HA HA HA!!!! Go listen to http://www.mp3.com/squidzilla/ and you'll probably take back what you said about the guitar player. It isn't that Gerard CAN'T play monster guitar. It just doesn't really fit this style of music. They are on Gold Circle Records. They are a small indie with major distribution. They have a few retro artists (John Waite, David Crosby) and also just signed Glen Phillips, the former singer from Toad the Wet Sprocket. ------------------ Things do not change; we change. - Henry David Thoreau
Im listening to it now for the 2nd time and I really like them, they are just as good as anyone out right now,IMO! Im usually listening to music from www.goddesssrock.com and usually dont listen to too much music Im unfamiliar with but I really like them. Oh,and Im only 22 but I like mostly all old school Rock and some of the new hard bands. ------------------ AKA Rendiggler
