Try reading some of Simmons' football writing. There's zero chance you'll be insulted by any Rockets slighting, and there's a very good chance you'll love it. For my money, Simmons is the most entertaining sportswriter on the planet. By a wide margin.

Simmons is a commedian who uses sports to write funny things. If you know his only goal is to be funny, you wouldn't be too upset about his "analysis."

Well, let's say the Rockets finish seeded 4th or 5th. In the second round, we'd play San Antonio, and he obviously doesn't think we could beat them --granted, he gives Dallas a chance.

yawn--who hasn't picked the Spurs this year?

and even if the Rockets would repeat the Nuggets' crazy winning percentage over the last half of the season, everyone would say that TMac hasn't gotten past the first round. Obviously, with his claiming Yao dissappeared in the playoffs last year (his column Part 1), Yao is getting the same treatment.

Is that Marc Anthony the Latino singer or did you mean former Ancient Roman leader, Mark Antony?? :p :D

For the record, Bill Simmons is hilarious - I doubt he expects anybody to take any of his stuff very seriously (unless it is the Red Sox).

I read his column everyday, because I'm a huge fan. Mixing pop culture with sports, two things I love, is a great combo. I too don't take his analysis too seriously, but once in a while he does point out somethings that make a lot of sense I never thought of (i.e. the Nugs probablly looking to trade Miller and Nene for a solid SG until he got hurt....its a good point). 95% OF THE TIME HE IS BEING A SMART ALECK! I think most of us understand this, but for those of you who don't, chill out.

By the way, in his off season review where he used quotes he like from "Anchorman" he listed the Stromile Swift signing as the most important and influentual one out of all the coaching changes, free agent signings, and trades. The guy does flip flop around a good bit (most of the time), but on the rare ocasion gets things right (with the Pats and Red Sox, and sometimes the Celtics, (I love his Brain Scalabrene rant). Just let him talk about whatever and laugh at all the other stupid stuff he says. Thats why I like him.

Bill Simmons is a 'fun' writer, but if you are taking his 'predictions' too seriously, something's wrong with your life.

I used to like him, but after reading for about a year, I couldn't stand him anymore the guy recycles the same lines from the same bag-o-references again and again. Yeah yeah, billy zabka, bad news bears, the derek lowe face, rounders quotes, "vision quest" references - I get it, it was funny the first 55 times. Possibly "sura faints" has more staying power.
